Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?
Always! Music has been there before I was written rhymes. I wrote R&B when I was into sports. I even wrote my own theme songs. I just love music, its like I was born to do it. Spitting is my way of life, ask me why? The rhyme did it.
Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?
Of course, my guy Boodah and Realy Real. Two of the greatest I've heard and my cousin Mizram and "T" loved my lyrics and forced me to develop a serious flow.
Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?
It's a lot of artist out there that inspire me. But I think from all my hard work and constant drive. I develop my own flow and style. People are always trying to compare me to other artist...But they can't pin point it and say he sounds like such and such. That tells me that I got a sound that is ready to be heard.
Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?
Because I'm REAL...scratch that. You can't even say "REAL" no more. Because so many cats say that...so I say that I am official. I make whole songs and I'm not trying to be like the next man. I'm not trying to do what he did to be heard. Everything I do is 100% "ME". My flow, my lyrics and in every joint, your going to get me. Every body that's meet me will say, "That's him!"
Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?
Will I sell out? Will I down grade myself? Will I disown my own blood? What I worked hard to become, what God made me. In the great words of Whitney Houston, "Hell ta da nawl."
Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?
First of all, one of the best moves I made was to join Artistopia. This, right here, is big for all indie artist. The second is grinding, keep putting out good music and getting it heard, by all means.
Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?
You got to know your business. Trust few, believe in less. Cause won't nobody do you like you do you. An I love me some "ME".
Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?
Don't get into it unless you got a hell of a drive. Make as much music as you can, then make as much noise and you can.
Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?
Rebuild a nation, starting with the kids. Might sound repetitious, but like all artists that have done before that have made it. I would like to start project in the ghettos like: parks and rec-center to keep kids off the streets. Find new things to help pave the roads for kids to succeed and not live that hard life that I grew up in.
Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival. No one said it would be easy.
