Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?
At 16 I realized that music writing makes me happy. It still does. Why? Because it’s “magic.” Sort of.
Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?
That special thing was the birth and expansion of electronic music in the 1980’s. I dreamed of synthesizers. Imagine my joy when I finally touched one! Now that’s between my computer and me, but the joy is still the same. Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?
I like when there’s good melody + original, inventive and stylish arrangement. From that point of view, the best works by Pet Shop Boys, A-ha, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Jean-Michel Jarre, Michel Cretou, George Michael and many others influenced my style.
Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?
Ah… Nothing. There are so many very talented independent artists nowadays, and I’m just one of them.
Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?
I’m thinking, what that might be in my case… My music is rather eclectic. I like various styles and could even write in those I normally don’t, though I have to say that’d bore me quite soon.
Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?
Well, I’m thankful to sites like Artistopia for providing great assistance and giving opportunities to indie artists like me.
Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?
I understand that business knowledge may be very important. At lest, it would not be out of place. As well as medical knowledge, right? With all the heartache you’ve mentioned…
Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?
So, right now that’d be advice to myself, ha? Try not to forget that music, creative work, sincerity should stay in the first place.
Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?
If I can, I would prefer to help directly, without any mediator(s). Help whom? It’s never a problem, there’s always someone/something in need around (unfortunately), just open your eyes and ears.
Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival.
