Profiles Help

The artist profile is a biography presenting the artist, singer, or band to the music community. This section includes information on building your profile professionally.

Q.  Who can join Artistopia?

 A.  Independent (aka indies) and unsigned music artists, musicians, singers, songwriters, vocalists, bands, instrumentalists, choirs, music groups, and comedians are all welcome to join Artistopia as an Indie using whichever membership plan is comfortable for them. Indie plans are for artists promoting themselves and NOT for a music business. If you are promoting a music business in any way, you are welcome to contact Artistopia Partnership Alliances and check out our Affiliate Program. We thank you for your cooperation in this.

Listeners and music fans have no need of signing up to listen in, shop, or browse throughout Artistopia. Many artists have their own personal forums or song reviews open for general public correspondence and discussions, so be sure to let them know your thoughts on the music created.

Q.  Why should I sign up with Artistopia instead of another Web music service?

 A.  TThere are MANY outstanding reasons for artists to sign up at Artistopia, the first being that NO ONE does what we will be doing on the scale of what can be done to help new artists, songwriters, and bands on the Internet. Take a moment to read what some the Artistopians themselves have to say:

“Artistopia is a great tool for emerging artists. Since joining I have connected and collaborated with some artists that I never would have known existed were it not for Artistopia. There are many music sites out there but very few provide you with the amount of resources that Artistopia does. Artistopia was definitely a major stepping stone in helping to get my music heard.”
– Ayanda Sunshine of Brooklyn, New York, Artistopia member since January 2005

"Artistopia is my sketch pad, my village, my art show, my studio, my culture, my back up, my iPod, my 8-track, my conduit, my fan base, my hang out, my slaughterhouse, my critic, my noteblog, my songblog, my weblog, my one cog, my cord, my sounding board, my alter, my ego, my alter, my ego, my alter, my ego."
- Bohannon of St. Paul, Minnesota, Artistopia member since March 2005

"Artistopia is much more than just another artist profile site, it’s the foundation for all my work. The unique structure of Artistopia mirrors reality so effectively it’s almost a living organism. The flexibility within Artistopia’s vast arsenal of tools enables each individual the ability to learn, express, and integrate their own flavor-style into that fast lane known as the entertainment industry. Too many artists have a false idealistic perception of what needs to be accomplished in order to be successful, severely underestimate the market, and misinterpret what industry professionals are “really” looking for. That’s where Arty comes in! Artists are jammed full of vision, but without DIRECTION it’s all just an illusion. Artistopia doesn’t just give the artist information, it gives them functional tools for hands-on experience, and that’s something so valuable it can’t be taught! Artistopia’s not just for the artists though, it upholds these same values for Industry Professionals! Offering industry business professionals an interface to explore talent and promote interest with limitless possibilities! I just can’t say enough about Artistopia, you have to experience it for yourself!"
- C'Quence of Warsaw, Indiana, Artistopia member since January 2004

“One of the best ways my music has been heard by many is when I signed up on Artistopia for free. Through Artistopia I’ve met the most talented artists across the globe. I had my music played over and over on their innovative internet radio station. I’ve had my music reviewed, downloaded, shared, talked about throughout the internet. The person that runs Artistopia is always on top of things. If you have a question it is always answered quickly. Artistopia truly cares about THE ARTIST! When I ask fans the question ‘How did you find me?’...The answer is undoubtedly, unquestionably, undeniably , indubitably ‘through Artistopia’. An extraordinary site!”
- Cindy Nelson of Cameron Park, California, Artistopia member since February 2006

“Artistopia is an invaluable platform for artists/musicians, I have been able to share ideas with other artists (as it’s a very friendly place) and even collaborate with some of them. I have been approached by quite a number of times by A&R and Record labels/producers who are able to access the site easily and listen to ALL its members. The tools are excellent with unlimited access to your profile where you can add all your experiences, training, events, awards etc which is great for the press kit builder facility. It’s a wonderful place and 'user friendly' I have already recommended 'Artistopia' to many people. A big THANKYOU to - Artistopia.”
- Claudia of London, UK, Artistopia member since - March 2005

"Artistopia provides a utopic 'learning curve' for artists interested in promoting their work by giving artists the tools and information about the workings and competitive nature of the music business. It's the leading artist development site on the web today."
- Indiana Gregg of Glasgow, United Kingdom, Artistopia member since March 2005

“Networking, musical exposure, a place to give and receive meaningful criticism, artistic development, and just the best place to learn and grow are all ways that I would describe my experience with Artistopia. There's definitely no politics here. Anyone who works to develop their artistic ability using all of Artistopia's available resources will be rewarded! For example, since I have used some of the marketing tips provided by Artistopia, my music has consistently stayed on the charts, I notice that I have higher downloads, people/other musicians are beginning to express appreciation for what I do as an artist, and I am starting to network with the most talented minds ever! Please do not hesitate to use this wonderful resource. Take full advantage as Artistopia offers one of the most comprehensive web development sites for musicians today.”
- Katrise of Orlando, Florida, Artistopia member since March 2004

"Just wanted to say, 'thanx!' Your site gives an independent artist like myself a sense of able fulfillment; in giving me an overall-view of industry insight and projection. I value your site; time; and everything you are doing for us. May God bless you in all that you do!"
- Mark Anthony, Acoustic Lix Pix & Kix of Redlands, CA, Artistopia member since May 2006

“I really enjoy the site. I am almost two years into it and it is always nice to be able to see my profile. That way, I can see the track record I am leaving behind. It wasn't like that before I became a member. My idea of music was everywhere. Here, there, somewhere. It was always spread out and unorganized, but now that I have a footnote / glimpse of what I've accomplished and what I will accomplish I can see better and clearly the path that I'm taking. I know where I'm going. Thanks guys.”
- Rainsweep of Fremont, California, Artistopia member since December 2004

“As an emerging young musician eager to break into the music business, I discovered the wealth of talent and resources in the independent music industry. As I searched for a network in which I could promote my music, I discovered Artistopia. From the first moment, I knew that there was something unique about this site. I had found many websites promoting specific genres of music or types of ensembles, but Artistopia was the only one that fully embraced all musical styles and personalities. It is without a doubt the most useful and encouraging independent music resource in the world, pushing artists to become better at what they do, and at the same time gain an appreciation and a deeper understanding of other artist’s music and accomplishments. Artistopia has brought me unprecedented attention and the chance to share my music with thousands of people around the globe. They truly demonstrate a strong interest in the artist as a person, and provide a platform for musical growth that has brought me a wide variety of professional contacts and opportunities."
- Robert Summers Potterton III of Houghton

Q.  Will I be able to print out my profile and use it in my press kit?

 A.  Better than that, the Artistopia Press Kit Builder will give you several options in format style to print out or email your profile or "resume". This profile print out could be included in your physical press kit for any offline promotions you will be doing.

Q.  When will my profile appear?

 A.  Your Artistopia profile will be viewable, browsable, and listenable when you upload your music. Just as important as your name, the heart of your profile is your music. Upload what you do!! We cannot emphasize this enough. Music industry professionals as well as your potential fans are hourly accessing the Artistopia Music Artists Member Profiles and Musicians searching for "the next big thing".

Q.  Why do some artists have more tabs than some other artists?

 A.  The tab navigation for the artists open up as they insert information, therefore, no info, no tab. A profile will also not show up until the artist has uploaded some music.

Q.  What are the specifics on my profile?

 A.  Your profile is quite an important piece of your presentation to the business. You will need a good quality picture of yourself or your band, portraying the image that you wish the world to see. Your bio, the information that you include on who you are and what you have accomplished should be well-written and accurate, with no misspellings. Your demo music to upload will need to be in the MP3 format. You should also include your music education and/or prior music career experience. Example: Piano lessons, guitar lessons, voice lessons, college music classes, self taught....

Please note: You MUST have music uploaded in order for your profile to appear!

Or if you are a songwriter or comedian...you still MUST have your work samples uploaded for you to be viewable. The reason for this is simple- The promotion of your talent is the reason you are here in the first place!!

Members, please read further suggestions and tips on creating your profile, at Member Console Help

 A.  Artistopia is for any musician, singer, songwriter, band, comedian, vocalist, any indie or independent or unsigned artist... wishing to establish a web presence. An artist must start somewhere so jump onboard and start building your presence, experience and knowledge - an update as you go!
