Q. Why you need to add your signature to your forum posts.
A. Signatures not only identify who you are, but are a profound way to spread your links to your Artistopia Profile, your personal Web site, or any link you wish to "advertise" across the Internet You can think of each time you reply to a forum post, whether in the Artistopia forums or elsewhere as dropping your business card. By "signing" your post and giving good reliable comments, you are establishing your music credentials...and in effect, can build your own fan base. Signatures in message boards are an established method of promotion for link popularity used by marketers and promoters throughout the Internet. So, if you have a music Web site, use your http://www.artistopia.com/yourband as part of your signature.
To add or edit your signature, while in forum threads, go to the "Edit Settings" button near the top right (where the New Post and View Monitor buttons are) then add the information you wish to appear and click Save Settings. It's as easy as that!
Q. Are there any rules to follow in the Artistopia Forums?
A. Yes, please read our Guidelines and check out these Frequently Asked Questions before posting or responding to make your experience the best it can be.
Quick Notes:
- Make sure you search to see if a topic you want to discuss already exists BEFORE you create a new topic. Search Thread by a particular keyword and press Go to find a specific topic of interest.
- Look around all the forums to make sure you post your topic in the correct forum
- Please do not post in ALL CAPS!! Excessive use of caps has always been considered shouting, and does not add to the overall page viewability.
- No spamming of our forums! Duplicate posts will be deleted.
- Forums are for discussion and debate. When you joined Artistopia, you agreed to refrain from the use of obscene, sexist, racist, homophobic, threatening or other ridiculously immature comments when communicating with fellow members. Civility will be maintained.
- The use of HTML is prohibited in all forum threads!
Q. What happened to my post?
A. If you did not put the post in the proper area, or if you Spam our forums in any way (repeat the same post in several sections), all of the posts not in the proper category will be deleted. We reserve the right to delete, filter or edit any reply, or to close a thread as we see necessary, at any time, for any reason, but most especially and more often than not, if there is a violation of our Guidelines.
Q. How can I change the info in my forum profile?
A. While in the Forums, go to Edit Settings (found near the top right). Include pertinent information about yourself and music, including the link to your music, the link to your image (must be in http://www.yoursite.com/images/banners.gif) and a link caption. Additional information could be your name with perhaps your favorite quote, your genre or other information about you, your band, or your work. Save Settings and you are done. Check to make sure your image and links are properly showing.
Q. Are you going to censor what I have to say?
A. At Artistopia, we never seek to restrict ideas, thoughts, or getting your point across...we just prefer to see them expressed in a respectful manner. We believe in intelligent discussion based on reason, tolerance and respect. Keep that in mind, and we are cool. Live well, learn much, sing along, and laugh a lot!!
Q. Help me OB1, I lost my password.
A. In the Login of your Member Access, there is a link (Forgot Password) to access if you have lost your password. Fill in your Account Login and click Send Password. Your password will be emailed to you shortly.
Q. Can I search these boards?
A. Once you are in a forum topic area of the Artistopia Music Forums, you can use Search Post by entering in a word or phrase. Try the words "music promotion", without the quotes, and find topics related to that phrase.
When searching for a particular artist's name, type the name in the Google Power Search feature in the top right area of the site, navigate the Member Forums, or search for them in the via the Search Post in the Artistopia Forums.
Q. What's the scale system for Forum status?
A. Recently implemented in the Artistopia forums is a scale some might see as a forum "ranking". This title scale is not based on number of posts, it is based on artist rank. To learn more about ranking on Artistopia, see your Community Status > Artist Rank, in your Member Console. Also, do a search within these forums on Ranking as more info has been discussed previously in other posts. These is the scale used:
1. Bedroom Musician
2. Nightclub Performer
3. Rising Star
4. Opening Band
5. Spotlight Artist
Q. Can I review an artist?
A. Yes, the channel available to add a comment about an artist is by way of each individual member's forum. Be aware of our forum guidelines, but feedback is generally considered important to a budding artist's creative process. Constructive criticism's goal is to help an individual to benefit and improve, so explaining what you liked or did not like about a work makes a far better approach.
Q. What are the Artistopia T-Alerts?
A. Artistopia T-Alerts are our way of letting you know when someone has responded to a thread in our forums that you wish to follow. We do not like the idea of going through an email each time someone responds, as in some other forums.
Q. How does the View Alerts feature work?
A. An awesome feature found in the Artistopia Music Industry Discussion Forums, is View Alerts- that is only available to registered members (aka T-Alerts). You can subscribe to a thread(s) so that you can be notified when there is a post to it. After logging in, post a thread or reply, check the Alert me of Thread Updates checkbox, then submit your post (or by clicking the View Alerts link as well). The T-Alert window will open in the top left of your screen and alert you of any post updates.
Artistopia prefers not to send nuisance emails for every thread/reply/post/update...blah blah- that occurs in forums.
Q. How do I use Forums Jump?
A. If you are in a certain Forum and want to jump over to another topic, use the drop down menu to hop to the next topic.
Q. How do I use Quick Reply?
A. Simply type in your reply message, check Alert me of Thread Updates if desired, and hit Add Reply. Our Insert Emoticons and Insert Link features are not available when using Quick Reply.
Q. Can I edit my posts?
A. No, editing and deletion is at the Artistopia moderators staff's discretion only. Make sure what you have posted is what you want the public to view AND check your spelling, because once you click "Add Reply", it's in there. If you have posted a link incorrectly, try to correct it by a follow-up post. A moderator may correct it, but it is at their discretion. Remember, read it before you add it!!
Q. What do I do if I see an abusive user posting offensive remarks, material?
A. We frequently scan our Forums for violations of our Guidelines, and handle these abuses as we deem appropriate for that offense. The best thing for you to do, however, is to NOT engage the perpetrator.
Q. How do I add an image to my signature?
A. Go to Edit Settings while in a Forum thread and add the banner URL pointing to the image you wish to show in your signature. Fill in any other additional information, including the URL to your music, and Save Settings.
