Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?
ANSWER HERE I believe at age 9 I wanted to be a rapper. I use to sit in my room and come up with these lyrics using my Grandmothers tape recorder. I just wanted people to hear what I had to say, which wasn’t much back then, but it was the Alpha for me.
Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?
ANSWER HERE Yea! My community, I’m from North Camden, NJ and the struggle as well as my surroundings was enough to influence me. I wanted to tell people where I came from and what is was like growing up in the ghetto. Run D MC, LL, Rakim, and The Fresh Prince were the people I was truly breath taken by.
Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?
ANSWER HERE I would have to say Jay-Z. It was just how he delivered his music and how he was able to make you feel him by just talking to you.
Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?
ANSWER HERE My song selection. I’m not here to drown you out with all the gun play and how I sold drugs or attempted to kill someone that right there is so played, but I’m here to make music that makes you feel good, speak facts, as well express my opinions on different subjects. I feel as though the only person I’m competing with is myself because no one can stop me but me.
Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?
ANSWER HERE No, because there is no turning back from that. See it’s funny record labels a tell you say this do this don’t say that don’t do that, but at the end of the day you don’t sell they will find someone else and their reputation won’t be tarnished now the fake false image you presented sticks with you for the rest of your life and everybody remembers it.
Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?
ANSWER HERE To be honest right now I’m just a beginner, so everything I’m doing right now is off impulse. But I’m always on the internet promoting uploading my music, in the streets heavy, to make it short my opinion on being a rapper is like running for president. Opening up to the public; promising the people something which is good music and trying to get them to elect you as one of their top artist.
Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?
ANSWER HERE Crucial!!! You better know your business in this field because people are only in it for the money and if your mind isn’t right they will get you.
Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?
ANSWER HERE Grind, Grind, Grind, Grind and more grinding. Do not give up there will be times when you question yourself, but continue to follow your dream. Learn the business inside and out, build a promotion team, and build contacts because that is vital. The more relationships you build with people the closer you are to accomplishing your goals.
Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?
ANSWER HERE I would have to do the research on the Charity group, but I do have something special in mind that will create a better future for you me and upcoming generations.
Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival. No one said it would be easy.
