Minimal is a San Francisco based quartet featuring the music of singer/guitaristbrDonald Mccrea. Their material deals with contemporary issues as well as delvingbrinto and reworking some traditional themes.brbrMinimal showcases the amazing guitarbrand mandolin work of transplanted british multi-instrumentalist Gawain Mathews......with the rock solid rhythm section of Kevin Porter on tuba, and John Urbach on drum kit and percussion, Minimal forges new grooves.brbr

Minimal's debut album, entitled Mississippi, is an exploration into American traditional genres like ragtime and the blues, and reconfigures them into more contemporary forms. Many of the narratives deal with the American south and southwest, with the addition of a five piece horn section (utilizing fourteen different horns), accordian, percussion, and harmony singer, Minimal expands into a twelve piece orchestra. brbrMembers of Minimal have recorded and performed with such artists as:Tom Waits, Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen, David Grisman, Dan Hicks, The Judds, Ella Fitzgerald, Maria Muldaur, Van Morrison, and Ben Lee, among others.
