This would be a great opportunity for everyone since Mp3.com's out of business .

I will pass on your message. However, I am hearing talks of allowing artists to actually sell their CD's. Question, when MP3 did it, did they simply provide you with the framework to do it and you handled the billing and shipping? Let me know so I can pass it on to the think tank folks.

well actually, how the messed up is how i ended up with Artistopia, i had subscribed for a platnum membership, i got the interface, and at every section it sayd " New users are not permited click here for mere info" and that linked to another link that pointed you to CNET and it sayd that MP3.com sold to CNET.com and that Cnet was "Revolutionising" the way music works by giving out the music for free .
Obviously, i deleted my stuff and their software from my pc and faught 4 my money back ( wich I got ).

so i started looking for other rescources on the web, and i came up with Artistopia.com
I'm quite satisfied for a free service, but if I was to be a paying member, i figure I should have a way of geting something out of it.
Plus, (I'm sure I'm not alone on this one) I would upload alot more songs if I could sell them ... I got a 3 song cd for sale , my album's allmost finnished, there's this cat i'm producin' who's realy dope too I wanna bring him to Artistopia, but the stuff in there's not something yu just give away for free, you know what I mean ? you give a lil' somethin'-somethin' but 'cha dont give away the whole thing like that !
I bet Artisopia could end up with quie a huge sound bak and a repitable name for every one affected by the businnes . Perhaps , we could open a lisensing bureau for ppl who are interrested in using some of our work and stuff. or what ever may be the opportunity , the idea is to buid a network right ? why not go all the way !

Vinny, thanks for the excellent feedback and insightful thoughts. Let me shed light on the some the things you are experiencing. As I was telling another member earlier, if you step back and look at Artistopia from a high level, you will notice that Artistopia mimics the real life concept of artist development to the T, and this is what sets us apart from the rest of the portals out there that are considered competitors. What you will find in those portals is that they are jacks of all trades and masters to none. To me, thats translates to "here is a set of tools, have fun, and give us your money" and no direction whatsoever. Sure other sites offer you the ability to sell your CD's (which I passed your suggestion to the right people, and thank you), but the real question remains. As an independent artist, are you looking to sell and profit from your music or are you looking for artist development to show and help your approach to the industry. Artistopia recognizes that you are able to sell CD's on Amazon, CDBabay, etc. And again, Amazon.com CDBaby does sell CD's but does not do artist development. We are not opposed to the idea, however, I think the bossman wants to make sure its not a money making stunt and rather one that will foremost benefit the "majority" of our members.

Please keep in mind that our goal is to pave a road for artists to development themselves dynamically. Meaning, what might work for you might not work for others. We often ask ourselves here: Is it important for independent artists to make money in the underground circuit or reach for the record deal of a lifetime. We found getting the record deal is what independent artists want. We could be wrong, however, the research has yielded such results. If this is a real issue, I would recoomend that you upload 30 second clips instead of the entire song.

PS. Artistopia is planning to open up an ecommerce section which will allow merchants (independent and commercial) to sell music artist products. Unfortunatle, that's as general as I can keep it for now. When it will happen, this year hopefully. But do keep in mind of what our concentrated focus is and always know we are here for support.

hi, i have to say i agree with you , too many ppl are looking at the art scene as adollar sing .
in that case, maybe you wouldnt want to sell and preffer keep it on a low . but you know , im a big think-tank myslelf ....

since the last time I posted . i singed up with pay pal for a merchant's account ( hint hint ) its totaly free ! all we have to do is put the buttons on are website and we're ready to sell .

wich im doing at all my 19 free hosts , so here's da eazy solution for you , you let artistopia members a place for a webpage somewhere neer or next to the links tab or something ...
what it would meen is that you guys do yur job and stick to what you know and if any one has what it takes to push it to the edge ... its there , they coulf go to the html tab and create a page or simply upload their home page . in wich case any one with ennuff brains could set up shop or do what ever to cusomise their artistopia.com service .

it would be totaly "Aristopia" as yu would be simply providing tools and it would be up to the artist to do it for him/her/them self(s)the only thing extra yu my have to add if yu were to ok this idea would be a few links pointing to a HTML tutorial ( i have an exellent one if you like ) and for those who wish to sell @ Artistopia.com could do it straight from their web page via Pay-Pal wich would leave the artist in full controll of all web sales and leave Artistopia.com out of any possible conflict of interrest or $$$ problems that could eventualy become associated to www.making money as an artist who is a member .

what do yu think ?
im still new at this idea , in fact, i just singed up with pay pal yesterday... im going to try it for my self on my www.free hosts and give you a feed back .
while this idea is fresh , i got many more to come , i am self employed as an artist , a producer , a record label, and more .... all it takes is good ideas an there yu go ... yr ready to take on da whole world !
if you would like some help on the inside @ Artistopia.com ... I would be honnored , you guys seem very honnest ! (and that's hard 2find these days)

iam an expert in sales & i have a certain genius for marketting and development ideas .
ive won awards at Personnel Avantage inc . and so on .
so in my case ... theres more to an artists than a song (lol)
im building trinity records out of montreal city and hope to become one of your music rescources when the infrasrtucture is ready . that should be next year .
