Project Grand Slam is releasing its debut album, “Play” (Cakewalk Records), produced by Grammy-winner Frank Filipetti (James Taylor's Hourglass album).
“Play” features a new version of the 1986 Top 10 hit, “The Captain of Her Heart”, with guest vocals by the internationally renowned artist, Judie Tzuke ("Stay With Me till Dawn" - chosen by the British public as one of the 50 best British songs from 1952-2002). An instrumental version of “Captain” is also included on the album.
The remaining 11 tracks on “Play” are original compositions by the members of Project Grand Slam: Robert Miller (bassist and composer), Haim Cotton (keyboardist and composer), Gilad Ronen (saxophone and composer) and Ron Thaler (drummer).
Five of the album’s tracks (“Out of Tahini”, “Ode to Jerry,” “Riding the Berks”, “Heat 2007”, and “Studio One”) were featured in the March 6, 2008 episode of NBC’s new hit television series, Lipstick Jungle, starring Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price. In addition, PGS was featured prominently in the episode and one of the band members had a speaking part.
“Play” is being distributed online by all of the major DSPs, including iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and eMusic.
Project Grand Slam has received accolades from the music industry, including:
"Project Grand Slam is a spectacular mix of jazz, fusion and rock that combines melody, groove and great improvisation!" - Acid Jazz Magazine
The band members have performed, toured and recorded with such luminaries as Randy Brecker, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck, Al DiMeola, Sarah McLachlan, Alicia Keys, Rob Thomas, Kenny Barron, Ofra Haza, Jon Lucien, Taj Mahal, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, DeeDee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Macy Gray and Anton Fig, among others.
