When I’m asked what this music is like… I really have no answer. “A distinctive collection of New Age, Folk, Jazz and Classical Guitar influences”.. makes a good sound bite.
What influenced me the most when writing this music was Mussorgsky”s “Pictures at an Exhibition”. Each piece is an acoustic guitar "story" (see song descriptions on the "Listen to Silk Brocade " page). I wrote these tunes to take you somewhere. I hope they do.
Once in the studio we tried out all kinds of ways to expand the sound of a acoustic guitar. An acoustic center surrounded by “crazy experiments”. It was all quite interesting.... Yours, Ken Mahren
