Allison Crowe Emerges in Canada's “New Who’s Who”: a Hot Name for the Coming Year in Music

CanWest News Service writers across Canada have chosen “the new who’s who” - drawn from the worlds of music, fine arts, television, and film.

Allison Crowe, a pianist since age five and a public performer for a decade, emerges among this select group of fresh talent rising to the top in 2006.

"Crowe has worked tirelessly over the last two years since launching her own record label with four albums, 40,000 km on the road, a pile of glowing press, and a content-packed web site... " says one news-writer.

Allison Crowe is a rare artist. Not only is she earning acclaim as an original singer-songwriter but she is also gaining renown for her distinctive, soulful, and moving interpretations of others' songs. She delights in lending her voice and piano to the creations of some of the world’s greatest popular songwriters.

Songs of Leonard Cohen, including Hallelujah, will soon be inducted into the newly-formed Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Joni Mitchell, another Canuck, known for her integrity, will be saluted next month with a special tribute concert at Carnegie Hall (a benefit for the non-profit Music for Youth Foundation). John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who first attracted serious attention from musicologist William Mann early in the 1960s, are, today, recognized as the finest songwriting team of the past 50 years. And, for an up-and-coming generation of songsmiths, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder offers an intense creative release.

Each of these artists is represented in song covers performed live (in concert and in the studio) by Allison Crowe ~ appearing online in her website’s “Cinema Central” ( http://www.allisoncrowe.com/videos.html ).

In 2006, Crowe will release a new studio album and, again, make concert appearances across North America and Europe.

Ross Hocker, veteran public broadcaster (and radio host with NPR affiliate WGTE these past fifteen years), attended one of the final shows of Allison Crowe’s 2005 concert calendar. Ross, whose musical taste embraces Thelonious Monk, Bela Bartok, Charles Gounod and more had this to say about the experience:

"I saw Allison at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio on December 6th, 2005. It was the most honest, heartfelt, and directly intimate concert in my entire life. I have been to hundreds of concerts of all sorts of music, but nothing like Allison Crowe! She is fantastico! and so very sweet and marvelous to behold... Allison has a special gift that is so very rare in musicians today. She is true to her mind, heart and spirit. She also has a most wonderful humor which envelops her audience. Thank you for being on this earth, dear Allison Crowe."

Details of Allison Crowe’s 2006 recording and touring plans will be announced this Spring.
