Andy Pratt is a singer, songwriter, music producer and live music performer who was born in Boston to one of the wealthiest and most educated families in America. His great-grandfather Charles Pratt was business partners with John D. Rockefeller, owners of the Standard Oil Company. Charles was an advocate of higher education and the founder of Pratt Institute in New York among other things.
Andy attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA where his father Edwin H. Baker Pratt was the headmaster for 20 years. Andy attended Harvard University and in his early days played music all around Boston and Harvard Square in Cambridge. In 1968 he received a degree in Literature from Harvard University. After graduation he left for New York where he released his debut album, “Records Are Like Life” in 1969. It was re-released by Polydor Records in 1971.
In 1973 Andy Pratt was signed as a Rock Recording Artist by Clive Davis with Columbia Records.
Then Andy Pratt exploded onto the music scene with his #1 Hit Song "Avenging Annie", a song about Annie Oakley and Pretty Boy Floyd the Outlaw which came about while Andy was listening to Woody Guthrie's “Ballad of Pretty Boy Floyd.” Roger Daltrey, the lead singer for The Who, liked "Avenging Annie" so much that he recorded it on four of his solo albums, including his 1977 album "One Of The Boys" and again in 1981 on the "Best of Roger Daltrey." The song can also be heard on Todd Haynes' 1998 film, "Velvet Goldmine".
David Cassidy covered Andy's song "All I Want Is You" on his "The Best of David Cassidy" album.
From 1973-1977 he was welcomed into the world of rock stardom by such music industry luminaries as Clive Davis, Nat Weiss, Ahmet Ertegun and Arif Mardin. He recorded with top musicians, the same ones Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon used. He toured America twice with a crack band, trucks, roadies, groupies, and whatever else a Rock Star might want. During those four years he appeared on television, got heavy radio airplay, was given rave reviews in many publications, including Rolling Stone Magazine, and was cheered on by thousands. He shared stages with countless musicians, and met just about everybody in the music world. Among the famous names appearing in this autobiography book are: Andy Warhol, John Belushi, Miles Davis, Tony Levin, Steve Gadd, The Band, Foreigner, David Gates, Bela Bartok, and Bono (U2)...
