Antropófagos is a band from Oslo, Norway, formed in late 2004. It evolved into the actual line-up in early 2005.
Antropófagos stands for cannibal, human flesh eater.
The term is a reference to the modern art movement under the same name originated in São Paulo, Brazil, during the Modern Art Week of 1922, which was theoretically based on the masterworks “Manifesto Antropofágico” and “Pau Brasil” by Oswald de Andrade and “Macunaíma” by Mário de Andrade.
To this artistic movement, antropófagos meant human culture eater. Cultural cannibalism! It was about absorbing various elements of the several cultures from all over the world that came together in Brazil.
Within the same principle, Antropófagos make musical cannibalism, which is assimilating and blending funk and rock with Brazilian and Balkan styles. Their concerts can vary from an electrically intense to an acoustically grooving two hour experience that pleases all audiences.
