Originally released in 1999 as part of 4AD's mail order/internet-only series, "Underarms" is an engaging and largely instrumental collection of outtakes from the band's "...smile's ok" sessions. Though the debut album consisted solely of covers, five of the seven tracks here are originals, and the disc provides a darkly ambient companion to "...smile's ok". The gorgeous, minimalist drone to both parts of "Sweet Medicine" provides a cyclical lean, and a couple tracks are downright sinister, on par with any of Main's harrowing soundscapes. This re-issue has new packaging and is a double disc containing the original album along with a second disc, all remixed by German electronic artist Markus Guentner (Kompakt Records).

The first song on the disc Heavy Drugs received many top 30 charting positions on college radio nationwide. Heavy Drugs has a radical punk rock feel to it. The song begs you to crank it up and cut everyone off on the highway. The album overall is a raw rock guitar album. The songs Mid-November Wet Dream, Untrue and Cleansing are solid hard rock tunes with smooth hooks and intelligent underlying messages pertaining to sex, other addictions and negative emotions. The Enhanced CD also contains a pumped up version of the Beatles song Everybodys Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey and a mellow tune eloquently entitled the Lounge Song. This album is for anyone who loves garage bands that sound like they are jacked up on steroids.
