“First of all,” Marianne X launched into a veritable tirade when contacted about the song, “nothing happened between me and Bohannon in that van or on that entire road trip!”
It was a surprising denial what with Bohannon's recent release of “Road Trip” in which he intimates that something might have taken place between the two now famous road trippers.
“Actually, I do nothing of the sort,” Bohannon pointed out when contacted for this story. “The lyrics are directly quoted as: 'marianne she could but then well would she; maybe with another tin cup of cherry o' wine,' which of course turns on the word 'maybe' and is never consummated with a 'hell, yeah, we did!' Which I'm not saying we didn't.”
“Then what the hell is he saying?” Marianne asked.
“She would ask,” Bohannon added. “Terrible memory.”
Taking the song itself as gospel, there was music, a bag of goodies, a picnic, and some hanging out – nothing to raise red flags beyond anything else that took place in the late seventies. But these two obviously have some issues to work through.
“We do not!” Marianne countered.
“But we might,” Bohannon offered.
“Not in a million years!” Marianne returned.
“Not then,” Bohannon said, “but maybe in the more recent past.”
