Album Summary
Smile is inarguably the most long-awaited album in modern pop history. It's been more than 37 years since the title first appeared on a label release schedule, intended as the January 1967 follow-up to the groundbreaking art-rock of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. But Smile never made its initial release date. Today, this album is not a mere reconstruction of past performances, but something entirely new, a serious summation of a project that has been gestating for nearly four decades.

Album Summary
Brian Wilson's solo debut finally arrived in 1988 to much fanfare and near unanimous critical hosannas. Unfortunately, its commercial impact was negligible, a disappointing outcome for both Wilson, who takes pride in his string of '60s hits, and his boosters, for the 11-song self-titled record represents the zenith of the pop genius's post-Beach Boys oeuvre. "Love and Mercy" heralds Wilson's return to form; lyrically gracious and musically grand, it's an opener quite nearly on a par with "Wouldn't It Be Nice." From there, Wilson and an assortment of coproducers (Russ Titelman, Jeff Lynne, Andy Paley, and Lenny Waronker) intermix brisk, playful rockers ("Night Time," "Little Children") with sumptuous pop concoctions (the a cappella "One for the Boys," "There's So Many"), wrapping things up with an ambitious suite, "Rio Grande." The reissue is generously fleshed out with interview segments, demos, and late-'80s rarities, including the delightful B-side "He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move." --Steven Stolder

Album Summary
The creative genius behind The Beach Boys' phenomenal hit recordings and the landmark album Pet Sounds, Brian Wilson is widely considered the greatest American-born popular music composer of the rock 'n' roll era. On this, his third solo release, the legendary artist returns to stellar melodic form with a disc's worth of original compositions and unforgettable performances. Superstar cuts include "City Blues," boasting lead guitar from Eric Clapton, "How Can We Still Be Dancing," spotlighting Elton’s vocals and boogie-woogie piano, and "A Friend Like You," written by Wilson for McCartney, and featuring guest vocals by Sir Paul himself! Also features several Brian Wilson/Andy Paley songwriting collaborations from the ’90s, including the title track and "Soul Searchin'," a moving duet with Brian and his late brother and fellow Beach Boy, Carl Wilson. Featuring artwork by Peter Blake, best known for creating the cover for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and booklet includes complete lyrics and in-depth liner notes by Wilson historian, David Leaf.
