Brook Benton originally had plans of becoming a songwriter, penning songs such as It s Just A Matter Of Time and Endlessly with Clyde Otis with Nat King Cole in mind to record them. Then Otis landed an A&R job at Mercury, convinced Brook to record the songs himself and persuaded Nat King Cole to forget about recording the songs he d been sent! The result was an R&B chart topper and pop #3 hit for the first song and a #12 hit for the second. More importantly, it introduced the silky smooth vocal style of Brook to a wider audience.
