| | | | Customer Reviews of This Item | | Audio Book Submitted on: 2009-11-24 | | I'm on CD #4 and already regretting not being able to listen to Paul on my way into work in the morning. His stories allow me to forget that I'm stuck in traffic and have made me, one more than one occasion, contemplate sitting in the parking lot for just one more chapter.
Paul voices the whole audio book and his impressions, pronunciations and punctuations add to each and every story he tells.
I dig this groovy audio book and despite a bad case of the Vegas throat, Paul is one crazy cat!
| | | | Bald men can be funny too Submitted on: 2009-11-17 | | | Paul Shaffer has a natural wit and the ability to tell stories without bringing all the attention to himself. The tales about his boyhood and growing up with two somewhat eccentric parents in Toronto provide a good foundation for his adult adventures. He is proud of his Jewish heritage without being preachy, but never lets you forget. All in all, a fun read with a glimpse into the backstage scenes of the music and late night television world. | | | | The "Zelig" of rock n roll entertains in literary form Submitted on: 2009-11-11 | | We'll Be Here For the Rest of Our Lives: A Swingin' Show-biz Saga
Excellent book ... and a very enjoyable read. As others have noted, a more linear chronology of events would have been easier to follow, but nonetheless a wonderful book.
Side comment: Mr. Shaffer references the "Brill Building", Spector, etc. frequently. A companion book to consider would be Always Magic in the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era. Always Magic in the Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era
| | | | Excellent read Submitted on: 2009-11-11 | | | I haven't finished this book yet, but so far it is an excellent story about a fascinating invdividual who has pretty much seen it all and done it all, too. If you like stories about music legends, this is for you. | | | | Boring but probably interesting for music nerds. Submitted on: 2009-11-02 | | | Like one of your other reviewers I'm a fan of Paul and his kitch band on the Letterman show but unless you are a seventies R&B fan or Orthodox Jewish its a dull read. It also reveals Paul as a bit of an opportunist, an inveterate a**licker and one of those sad guys who uses his musical skills, hip talk and name dropping to make friends or get girls, as without it he would be an unattractive little nerd. There's nothing wrong with that I just dont care to read about it as it reminds me of my own shortcomings... | | | |
