Why wait for other people to pay attention to your music? "How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent)" will explain, step by step, how you are in control of your musical success and set you apart from 99% of your competition. You'll see exactly how Lee Kennedy, a musician just like you, makes over $100,000 every year without a record deal, manager, or booking agent.

Co-Authored by guerrilla music marketing expert David Hooper (Kathode Ray Music), this book gives you two perspectives on a single path to musical success that will have you selling more CDs, getting more people to your shows, and making more money in the music business immediately.

This book covers everything you need to know from show to bring in big crowds to see you play, Internet promotion, direct mail, music publishing, finding hidden work, and more. The best part is that this book is covered by a one year money back guarantee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Average, May 14, 2006
This review is from: How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent) (Paperback)
A good book with easy but basic information contained within its pages. The book is great for people that are new to the industry but professionals might find id incomplete, and it even won't satisfy most newcomers. An overall good book by structure, content and presentation but there is another more in depth title that shines above this one. "101 Music Business Contracts - Updated Edition - Preprinted Binder / CD-ROM set containing over 100 contracts and agreements for recording artist, musicians, ... industry. Entertainment law at it's best!" by Ty Cohen is far better and features more valuable information structured in such a way that it makes it very easy for all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Reading this book proved profitless, September 20, 2005
This review is from: How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent) (Paperback)
I regret spending my hard-earned money on this profitless book. But it might be a good starting point for younger readers aged 12-14- after all, you can't make $100,000 a year delivering newspapers! Mr. Hooper: does 'bio' really mean 'biography'? You saved me a trip to my dictionary! (and managed to pad your book with yet another banal sentence)

4.0 out of 5 stars David Hooper's Book worth reading, March 25, 2005

I think this is a very well organized book that can be understood by everyone and doesn't pander to the intellectually elite. For someone starting out it has invaluable information and for those who have been around a while, there is still enough to keep the pages turning. A good business primer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is thin on real ideas & strategies & VERY outdated, April 10, 2004
By
Rema Hochberg (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent) (Paperback)
Sorry Misters Hooper & Kennedy, but while the title of this book seems indeed quite alluring, you can hardly make 100K by following the vague and obvious advice given in this thin and outdated volume. I've been a struggling musician for about ten years and there's not alot here I wouldn't have figured out from my own common sense.

For a real, updated look at the business, I suggest you check out Bobby Borg's Musician's Handbook, or Justin Goldberg's The Ultimate Survival Guide to the NEW music Industry - Handbook for Hell - which is the best step by step program available ANYWHERE in the world independent music business stratgies. From what other musician's tell me, this book is just a lure into the world of a music marketing company that continually seeks more $ out of a very dry source -the unsigned, independent musician.

I have been able to conjure up so many great ideas from your book that will set us apart from bands in our area and across the world.

That was money well spent.

This is a good book. I read it and recommend it for anyone in a band or anyone without an in depth knowledge of the music business. Many of the points it made I found refreshing and inspiring.

1.0 out of 5 stars Promotion for Dummies, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent) (Paperback)
I'm sure Hooper is a nice fellow & means well. If you are an absolute moron (like I was), then go ahead & read this fluff. This is hands down probably the worst example of an insightful work on this subject. It offers nothing but basic common sense, that only an idiot or absolute novice, would find useful about marketing & the music business. The intelligence level of this book is for a sixth grader. The book is double spaced & laced with idiocy & repetition to make it appear like it has any worthy content. The best thing about the book is the title & the front cover. That is where Hooper & company did well. It hooks a potential reader & reels them in like a fish so Hooper can participate in the free market system & fleece every penny of the inflated price of this croc of dribble. A great companion book to this would be "Tim Sweeny's Guide To Releasing Independent Records." These two books together repesent the apex of badly written, over priced worthless dribble. There is not one insightful point in either book. No wonder Hooper talks about making 100K a year in the business. It's all those book orders he's getting from the neophyte & well intentioned masses that would like to learn more about the daunting aspects of the music industry. Don't waste you time & money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obviously Self-Published., November 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent) (Paperback)
This book has some interesting concepts, but is overpriced-
It has extra large type, many blank spaces, and is published by
Kathode Ray Music- which is David Hooper's Company.

That being said, I'd say that $12 would be a fair price. If the type set was normal, the book would be half the length. My copy had poor print quality.

Good basic information but lacks depth.

Think you know it all about the music business?
Think you have it all together? Well think again.
The book "HOW I MAKE 100 THOUSAND A YEAR IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS"
Is the most comprehensive A to Z book of it's kind.
No matter what stage of music you are in this book will give you
insight. This book tells the truth and does not candy coat the
business. The kind of advise you only learn by being there...
Life is short so take as many shortcuts as you can. This book tells it like it is...................
