Beautiful CD from one of the best voices ever Submitted on: 2008-06-27 |

It's not surprising Sinatra referred to Rosemary Clooney as having the most pure voice he'd ever heard. She could belt out a song but then tune it down on the next one, pulling at your heartstrings. She was the voice of so many classics, and For the Duration shows why. Of all the times I've heard "The White Cliffs of Dover," hers is the only version which makes you understand the words and meaning behind it -- and brings you to tears.
Simply put, Rosemary Clooney made the words come alive. |

Rosie never sounded so good--BRAVO, ROSEMARY CLOONEY !!! Submitted on: 2008-04-10 |

For the Duration is an excellent CD by Rosemary Clooney that has her singing her heart out on these great tunes from the era of World War Two. The sound quality is excellent as these are more recent recordings of these classic tunes; and the artwork reflects good judgment.
"No Love, No Nothin'" starts the track set with Rosemary singing this sweetly; the piano arrangement is very pretty and elegant at that! The melody also gets strength from the drums and percussion. Rosemary's voice itself is as clear as a bell; and she sings with all her heart and soul. "Don't Fence Me In" features Rosemary front and center with another elegant piano arrangement; Rosemary never misses a note and she handles numerous tempo changes effortlessly like the pro she always was! I really like "Don't Fence Me
In."
"I Don't Want To Walk Without You Baby" gets the royal treatment from Rosemary; and the horn solo is heavenly! Rosemary and the music that accompanies her make "I Don't Want To Walk Without You Baby" a major highlight of this album! Listen also for "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To;" I always liked this ballad and Rosemary's interpretation is both slightly jazzy and sublime at once.
"For All We Know" lets Rosemary open up and display her wide vocal range; she sings with panache and great sensitivity. This really impresses me and I always enjoy this number when Rosemary Clooney sings it. "These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)" is a classic pop vocal made into a masterpiece by Rosemary's excellent interpretation of it; and her voice is rich, warm and very vibrant.
"They're Either Too Young Or Too Old" is a peppy little tune that I always like; Rosemary infuses this with lots of energy and enthusiasm to make her rendition a very memorable one. Great! There's also Rosemary doing her very best on "The More I See You;" this love song sounds fresh and new--Rosemary's voice is THAT good.
"(There'll Be Blue Birds Over) The White Cliffs Of Dover" is a very famous song from the World War Two era; and Rosemary does it great justice with her fine treatment of this number. "(There'll Be Blue Birds Over) The White Cliffs Of Dover" truly showcases just how great Rosemary Clooney was as a vocalist.
The album ends very strong with Rosemary performing "I'll Be Seeing You." This very sentimental love ballad is always one I love to hear; and Rosemary doesn't let us down here--she sings this very well. What a great way to end this CD!
Overall, this is a fine album of 1940s hits by the great Rosemary Clooney. Her fans will want this one for keepers; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will want this also.

| All of Clooney's Concord sets are special but to me, this cd is the highlight of her career(no, I didn't forget about her Ellington collaboration). Here Clooney sings backed by Scott Hamilton's mellow sax, on some special numbers like Don't Fance Me In, Thier Either Too Young ot Too Old, and an exellent version of No Love No Nothin', a truly special and jazz-filled album! |

| "FOR THE DURATION" IS MY VERY FAVORITE ROSEMARY CLOONEY RECORDING. IT REMAINS PERMANENTLY SET AT DISC 1 POSITION IN MY AUTOMOBILE CD PLAYER. HERE ROSIE CAPTURES WELL THE MOOD AND SPIRIT OF MANY OF THE LOVELIEST MELODIES HEARD DURING WORLD WAR II, A PERIOD I SPENT SAFE AT HOME ENJOYING HIGH SCHOOL. ROSEMARY, TOO, WAS OF HIGH SCHOOL AGE WHEN THESE MELODIES FIRST WERE HEARD ACROSS THE LAND. JOHN ODDO'S ARRANGEMENTS AND THE MUSICAL GROUP HE ASSEMBLED TO PERFORM HERE PROVIDE THE SWEETEST SOUNDS. THE VIOLINS ADD A TRULY CELESTIAL TOUCH. CONJURING FOR ME IMAGES OF ROSIE, SOLO, AMID A SILENT ANGEL CHOIR SOFT JAZZ TOUCHES PERMEATE... AFFECTINGLY, SENSITIVELY, TERRIFICALLY, MAKING THIS CONCORD JAZZ RECORDING THE SUPERLATIVE IDEAL. THIS RECORDING CAPTURES FOR ME, FOREVER, THE ESSENCE OF ROSEMARY CLOONEY, GIRL SINGER AT VINTAGE BEST DURING A PARTICULARLY MELLOW TIME OF LIFE. "FOR THE DURATION" CONSTITUTES MY SPECIAL SOUVENIER: ROSEMARY CLOONEY, AS I WISH TO REMEMBER HER. |

The finest recording of her career... Submitted on: 2003-12-13 |

| This and Blue Rose with Duke Ellington from the 50's, are her best cd's(Ballads ain't bad either). This cd features a mature and knowing Clooney who sounds so calm and cool on the greatest version ever of Don't Fence Me In(even better than her friend Bing's version). Scot Hamiltons' sax playing blends so well with clooney's luxerious voice. This is a fine jazz set, of WWII standards, that also include a fine swinging version of No Love, No Nothin', this is simply a highlight of clooney's long career. I believe thsi is her finest work ever(& I'm only 17 years old!). |
