Hole's first album..... Submitted on: 2009-04-27 |

| You can definitely hear the difference between this album and Hole's other albums. It's not as good as Live Through This but I think it's better than Celebrity Skin. Courtney does alot more yelling and screaming on Pretty on the Inside than she does on the other albums. I think she sounds better doing than that than when she actually tries to sing (like she did on her solo). |

Pretty on the Inside Submitted on: 2009-01-17 |

Pretty on the Inside being Hole's 1991 release and their debute album is an album that is seething with rage. Courtney Love sings with so much anger that you can verily feel that rage that was in her at the time. Songs that standout on this debute album are "Teenage Whore" and "Garbage man". The booklet is a strange on with lyrics that one can not read and a bunch of random pictures. 4/5.

| Pretty on the Inside is a swirling whirlpool of depression and anger. It stands above Hole's releases as a perfect statement free from desires for commercial appeal or media adoration and succeeds at creating a rival to the best grunge releases of the 90's, even bettering Nirvana's Nevermind (but maybe not In Utero). The songwriting is surprisingly unique. The songs generally stray from the played out verse-chorus-verse format, instead turning on themselves and repeating common themes throughout. Eric Erlandson's guitarwork shines too, with guitar parts so heavy and thick they give Black Sabbath a run for their money. The lyrics are great too. They're messy and disturbing, but literate and brutally honest. This is punk music at its finest. Hell, it's music at its finest period. Don't listen to the idiots who swallowed Celebrity Skin's candy-coated feces. It's the only Hole album you really need (except for the rarities collection My Body the Hand Grenade, which has some of their other early music). |

This isn't my Courtney! Submitted on: 2007-08-04 |

| Pretty on the Inside is a cd that ultimately became a casualty in my music collection. First of all, I am not a Hole hater, I love the band of Courtney Love's screaming voice but this particular album is an absolute mess! The lyrics are somewhat hilarious but not much is being said and the music is non-cohesive. None of the songs are complete or brilliant. If you want a great Hole album then try Live Through This, My Body, The Hand Grenade or Celebrity Skin. Those are real and breathtaking albums. Discard Pretty on the Inside, it's not that beautiful kids. |
