Could have been much better, drummer out! Submitted on: 2004-08-06 |

| I bought this item mainly because of Tim Hodgkinson's appearance on it, having been a listener to his works and appearances on recordings for some 22 years I was somewhat disappointed on this album and I understand why noone of his works with God never has been listed on his closely associated ReR label. The disappointment is not with Tim's contributions to God however but on some of the other band members, especially so the drummer, this recording is from the early 90's but still have some of that horrible poor 80's drumming on it, both in sound and in style, noise music such as this don't fit together with laibachesque drummings and rhytm sections, on top of this you will also find some "funky" kind of bassplaying! The drums and the bass then most often steal away the great guitars, noises and Tim's saxes, so it makes but a poor result. Kinda sad. If the drummer could have been replaced with someone like Chris Cutler it might have been much better, still with these kind of interesting noises made here, there would be no drummer needed at all! Same goes for the bass, "funky" basslines to noises and experimental improvisations doesn't fit together, at best it will sound like a cheap copy of the 80's Massacre. Still this album is worth 3 stars, as said because of the good and interesting noises. Those of you that buy this album because of Tim Hodgkinson featuring have to be hard core fans only. |

| A buddy traded me this CD for a Tom Waits CD several years ago when it was first released. I've had it ever since. I find it incredibly rough, but at the same time palatable. Zorn's saxes really spice the album. Trace-inducing music that does make you catatonic; rather like an amphetimine rushed aware state. |

| Strangulating...overwhelming...pure...noise guitars, tribal drums, frantic saxophones, screaming voices. This is pure voodoo. Featuring John Zorn, Kevin Martin (Techno Animal), Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Techno Animal,...) and lots of others and than you should know enough. Heavily underestimated album. The next album (Anatomy of Addiction) is even better....buy it or steal it and spread the word |

a summary of experimental music Submitted on: 1998-11-01 |

| "possesion" is really an album which have spirit in it. Coming from a hard-core background, it takes the free jazz motives and combine them with psychedelic murmurs. A fascinating album which can be spiritual, experimental, dark, meditative and narrative. |
