| Great album, truly refreshing when you look back at the music from early 80s, this was one of those brilliant unnoticed "alt. rock" gems from back then. Had one issue though, on one of the tracks on the second disc it was actually stuck and i had to give my record player a little push for it to continue playing, and this was my first time playing it. So beware, you get what you pay for though - a decent pressing of a classic album. |

A SIX out of five stars! Submitted on: 2009-08-27 |

What more can be said about this?
Simply put, this is one of the top 20 albums of ALL TIME.
I play this for 20-year old music students of mine, and the response is always the same: "WHO are these guys!!? This is one of the best albums I've EVER heard!"
It's a shame that The Minutemen -- and this record in particular -- languish in obscurity, while so much utterly mediocre so-called "alternative" fare surrounds us.
One thing that stands out on the record (among the MANY!) is this: D's guitar playing! It's on this record that he really shows how much he had matured (in a good way!) as a guitarist. It's really quite extraordinary and dare I say even virtuosic, while still both *rockin'* and sensitive. Keep in mind that both these were traits highly *frowned* upon within the "punk" and "alt" scenes at the time. It wasn't "cool" or "punk" to play the guitar as well as D did. The other exception was Curt Kirkwood, of fellow SST band-mates The Meat Puppets.
Anyway, one of the best of all time. |

Punk Rock Changed Our Lives Submitted on: 2008-12-19 |

| ... and this album changed mine. I have never heard anything as great as the music that is Double Nickels on the Dime. If you haven't heard it, then get it. If you have heard it, then you know words are meaningless in the review of a masterpiece. Few bands can achieve half of what the Minutemmen achieved on this. God Bows to Math. |

| I believe I have listened to this album more than any other in my collection. Powerful, angry, just incredible. I literally wore out the tape. It never gets boring! |

This isn't actually a real review I just wanted to commented on something somebody said. That this isn't punk. For one, punk isn't a sound. Secondly this is more post punk. Its DIY that's what is punk about it. Oh and this guy actually said "IF U PPL THINK U CAN HANDLE TRU HARDCORE PUNK THEN CHECK OUT OLD KORN AND LIMP BIZKIT P.O.D. OR STAIND." lmao. What? Are you serious? True hardcore punk=old korn, limp bizkit, pod, and staind? There is a sound associated with punk even though punk its self doesn't have a sound. And that sound is defiantly not the sound of any of those bands. Minor threat, black flag, circle jerks, fear. Thats true hardcore punk in my mind (sound anyways). lol...limp bizkit.
Now, too the album. Not very many standout songs. I feel myself wanting to like it more than I do. It has a good bass and unique sound. I just think the songs themselves could be better. Though there are gems like corona and vietnam. I'm not sure I can justify buying this album at it's current price =/. So why the four stars? Corona and vietnam are hella good songs. Some others too. |
