love it. Submitted on: 2008-05-27 |

I reallly enjoyed this album, a lot. I like this album because it kinda has a bluesy, old school vibe that you can kinda nod your head to and kinda dance to. My favorite song would have to be Take a Look at That Guy. It's very catchy and I just wanna dance around my room to this. The song I liked least would probably be Pressure Drop, this sounds kinda bothers me. not quite sure why...
I think Izzy should be appreciated for more things besides the fact that he was a rhythm guitarist in Guns N' Roses. |

Good, but not great. Submitted on: 2008-02-03 |

| I started with "117 Degrees" and really liked it, so based on all of the reviews for the first one, I bought it. Good, but not great, whereas "117 Degrees" was almost great, easily 4.5 stars. Ju Ju Hounds has some really tight songs, but the flow of the music doesn't match 117 degrees. I'm looking forward to getting more Izzy because he is real. |

Izzy's Great Solo Debut! Submitted on: 2008-02-02 |

If you picked this up expecting Guns N' Roses, you may have been disappointed. For the most part, Izzy Stradlin & the Ju Ju Hounds plays less like Guns and more like The Rolling Stones, which were a big influence on Izzy. Izzy's first post-Guns work is considered by many to be a modern blues rock masterpiece. Released within a year of his departure from Guns, it's a very strong first release, and also the easiest to acquire. It has a looseness about it that corporate rock seems to lack. Maybe the relief of leaving the worlds biggest (at the time) and most volatile band allowed for Izzy to write such a laid back album. I don't know. I do know that it's a damn fine effort, and that listening to this makes it pretty clear that Izzy had a profound effect on GNR's sound.
Highlights:
"Somebody Knockin"
"Shuffle It All"
"Train Tracks"
"Cuttin' the Rug"
"Take a Look at the Guy" |

Izzy's best after GN'R Submitted on: 2008-01-09 |

I really managed to get this piece of great rock. I can't figure out how such a great musician (the real GN'R genious) can fade away and let so many people without a trace about his music. I always looked up to Izzy's performances (when he was part of the band) and thought he was the band on his shoulders. See, when he left the band, it almost dissapear and then died.
Well, about this album... it really sounds like a classic. "Somebody Knockin'" is such a great opening for this album, it rocks and gives us a magnificent introduction to what this album has to show. "Time Gone By" remains in my mind as the soft and calm melody it is (as well as the inmediately next "Shuffle It All"), great songs... I would qualify them as A++.
Changing the style a little bit, we get "Bucket O'Trouble"... it softly reminds me GN'R, not so great but still alright. "Train Tracks" comes with a remarkable and notorious guitar that makes it so cool... I love that song, one of the best of this album, for sure. "How Will It Go" sounds really classic again, I would say... how can this -almost unknown and underrated- guy have this song and not be a superb rock star? Oh man, you must be kidding me... there are so much crap around... anyway, great, great song. "Cuttin' the Rug" comes very rhytmical again with another notorious guitar that goes along Izzy's voice... awesome combination.
The last two songs of this album are "Take a Look at the Guy" and "Come On Now Inside", two songs for closing this masterpiece with a different touch, for this album which is full of variety in tunes and styles.
In conclusion, this album really rocks. It would be part of any classic rock collection, for GN'R fans and for those who didn't like them much. Sometimes it sounds like Rolling Stones... I would agree... but Izzy Stradlin' has his own particular style. For good. |
