Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

Brutal, crass & powerful

The title track opens with nervous percussion, metallic sounds and strangled voice samples, occasionally falling into a chant of the title. In this inimitable way it meanders on to eventually conclude with a whimper, but not before some spooky synthesizer burps have their say, or shall I say their boing boing boing.

The Meltdown Oratorio track of this gross collaboration has Lydia mumbling over a threatening foghorn sound, something about them having outlawed everything that spells pleasure. It then bursts into a cacophony of frenzied drumming and industrial sounds with Lydia singing and mouthing obscenities while glass shatters all around and sirens wail over the feedback and distortion.

Son Of Stink is more of the same but with more shouting and chanting, like a dub version of the title track. I'm sure that fans of The Pop Group and diverse industrial noise merchants like Nitzer Ebb and their ilk will love this. As for me, I don't play it very often. Life's great when you're having fun. If you like this, you'll also love Fuck Off 2000 by Jayne County.

i dig lydia for the same reason i got into avant garde jazz:
exhilarating, adventurous, and decidedly UNcommercial sounds...
a musical enema for formulaic constipation.

i just wish in general that she'd do more collaborating with her fringe musician pals and less speaking engagements.

in this instance we have a collaborative effort with jim 'foetus' thirlwell (aka clint ruin) and old buddy thurston moore. that makes me happy :)

this was the 3rd thing by lydia that i picked up (the first 2 being '13:13' and 'honeymoon in red') and it is definitely the most out-there! the highlight is prob. 'stinkfist' - which you can also find on a few goth compilations.

sure is expensive for an ep! if you're investigating lydia, try 'honeymoon in red' or 'queen of siam' or 'shotgun wedding' first.

A friend recommended that I get a hold of this. Boy, what a mistake. This is music (I'm feeling generous so I'll use this term) to throw up to. Mind-numbing toneless music and pointlessly vulgar lyrics... what a combination! Life is not worth living if it means having to listen to this sludge.
