DISCO good! Submitted on: 2007-07-02 |

The Ritchie Family are as prime disco as The Silver Convention were. Both are wonderous and even pioneering groups of the very early dance craze. They were there right at the helm and were always sure to get things to a rollicking start. The collection here is quite adequate for the real die hard fans, although some will complain about not including Quiet Village. The condensed versions of Arabian Nights and African Queens does not bother me as much, since in a variety set, I doubt including the unedited versions of both, which amounted to fifteen minute medleys each, should be expected in full scopes. It is fortunate that this collection does not include any downright short versions that most disco collections demand to offer unless you get the original albums reissued.
AMERICAN GENERATION is mislabled here as American Dance, please note, and most versions of singles are full length indeed. |

"A Must For Collectors,But something's missing" Submitted on: 2007-06-19 |

| As one of the reviewers wrote; It was a shame that this collection didn't include the beautifully recording of Les Baxter "Quiet Village" in its total 5:45 minutes. It was a number one track on the Billboard Disco Chart in 1977,and by far the best and most harmonious recording of The Ritchie Family. Most of the the tracks in this "Best of" are shorter than the original time included on the albums of the 1970's. Shorter versions of Arabian Nights(Medley) and African Queens(Medley) were an unforgivable mistake due to the fact that these versions in their original time are a musical delightful experience to listen. Other Ritchie Family tracks that should be considered to transfer to the cd format are Peanut Vendor,Frenesi and Brazil Medley in its long version and a track from the Arabian Nights album "Baby I'm On Fire" which is perhaps the second best after the classic of the Disco Era "The Best Disco In Town". Some good choices included here are "Dance With Me","Life Is Music","Lady Luck",the joyful, rhythmical and brilliant recording "American Generation","Put Your Feet To The Beat"and "Gimme A Break". This compilation of their best hits is "a must" for collectors, but record distribuitors should consider bring to glorious cd their original albums in their totally. It would be a musical feast for "Disco Lovers". |

Good Compilation Submitted on: 2006-11-02 |

| The Ritchie Family are one of those groups whose songs you may have probably heard but are unfamiliar with who actually performed them, take The Best Disco in Town, Give Me A Break or African Queens as examples. Its a good compilation including all of their hits as well as some album tracks. Good for dancing and remembering a bygone era. |

Great compilation,bad presentation. Submitted on: 2006-01-08 |

I would be very interested to know if anyone out there who has
purchased this item feels as ripped off as I do.
It's a great compilation BUT my copy is a cd-r!!!!
I was gobsmacked after shelling out my hard earned dollars on what I thought would be a nice journey down memory lane only to be sent a cd-r and an inner sleeve that looks like a scanned photo copy.
If you're just after the music, you can't go wrong,it's a great collection.Unfortunately the shoddy presentation lets it down.
I'm that scared that the lacquer on the disc will scratch or the fine layer of foil the music is burnt on to(it's almost completely see through) will peel away that I will be making a backup copy to play.
It's such a shame as Hot Records include a catalogue inside the cover however you would be wise to be warned. They sell cd-r's! |
