Missing Pieces of Prince's Puzzle Submitted on: 2008-12-28 |
|
| These two ladies are definitely the missing pieces of some of Prince's best work! This is their first solo album (the most recent as of this review being White Flags of Winter Chimneys fond at[...]). This album should not be confused with a Prince album because the ladies have a sound of their own! My favorite cut on this album is 'Stay' which is a sultry ballad with a great Wendy guitar solo. Another song on this album with a cool guitar solo is 'Waterfall' which happens to be a favorite song of many W&L fans! The album transcends musical genres. You can get a taste of soul: 'Stay', 'Honeymoon Express', 'Blues Away'. Jazz: 'White'. Pop: 'Waterfall', and the ladies unique blend of pop/funk/blues/jazz in 'Chance to Grow', 'Everything But You', 'Blues Away', and 'Sideshow'. If you enjoy albums in which not every song sounds the same, then this album is for you! Just don't expect another Prince album because the ladies definitely have a sound of their own! |

Some cool sounds coming from the Prince factory Submitted on: 2008-04-25 |
|
| Former members of Prince's 80s band, The Revolution, Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman squared off as a duo and quickly got things off to a fine start with this album. An introspective, "singer-songwriter" type of album that came around a few years before that term became an everyday catchword, this album is layered with haunting melodies, beautiful guitars, spacey, out-there singing and some deep, dark subject matter not found in a lot of 80s pop music. The duo made a handful of albums over the next few years, and while they're all decent, this first attempt is probably still their best. |

Hating on Prince Submitted on: 2005-11-01 |

| I think too many people are focused on the separation of the Revolution. Like always all good things must come to an end . . . to start something new and better. Prince is a musical genious. Maybe the separation was a blessing in disguise. Look at the work W&L have done!!! I love Wendy and Lisa and their music. It's stress relief for me. Their music is a breath of fresh air from all of the crap on the radio today. I still listen to all of my (yes I still have them) W&L cassettes. Better get cd's before the tapes break. I hope to hear something else from them besides soundtracks. Keep up the good work ladies. |

Doing Fine On Their Own Submitted on: 2005-06-21 |

| Wendy and Lisa were always more than just members of the revolution. They were able come away from that whole Prince music madness of the 80's and remain true individuals. As a new group of two Wendy and Lisa proved they had what it takes to deliver a great album. Their music was a world away from what they were doing the previous year with Prince. The album is a blend of folksy, pop, rock-music. Wendy and Lisa along with Bobby Z. have the musical talent to turn out good music. Wendy's voice is smooth, sexy, soulful and Lisa's vocals are the perfect compliment to Wendy's voice. |
