On the Money

"Hey! How are my Ladies from the '80's?!" That was Eddie Money's rallying cry when he performed at our local county Fair this summer.
Well, I'm pretty good, thanks, Eddie! And this greatest hits CD was just the thing to brush up on all of the hits that made him so much of a guilty pleasure back in the day. This is a fairly complete collection of hits, and you'll be singing along to 95% of them, I guarantee. The only glitch was the lack of inclusion of "Give Me some Water", which was a huge hit for him and also a great song! In fact, I'd totally forgotten about it until he performed it live, and I said to myself,"Now why wasn't THIS on the CD?"
Great collection and just enough new stuff to make it even better

I have a problem with reviewers who probably have all of their favorite artist(s)' albums and go on record complaining that this song or that song wasn't on the "greatest hits" or "best-of" collection. I was a fan of Eddie Money's from the beginning, and was a little surprised to find that one reviewer thought his debut album was lame. I for one thought it was a super start to his career, with a couple of huge hit singles (the shorter single version of "Two Tickets" is even hotter than the album version...good luck finding it outside of eBay or one of those places you find in Goldmine that specialize in 45RPM singles only, if you find a copy of that one, it's worth your effort to track it down...if you're wondering, it isn't an edited version but a total remake with more guitars and more harmonies).

The additional tracks: Peace in Our Time, Stop Steppin' On My heart, Looking Thru the Eyes of a Child and the live version of Where's the Party are all typically radio-friendly Eddie Money tracks (that is definitely NOT a complaint) that show him in his element of being a rock-solid performer. His live shows, of which I've seen several, will put any doubt aside. If you have all the original albums these songs came from, the bonus material makes this one worth your money. I'm still a fan and it's all good.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY...

EDDIE MONEY-GREATEST HITS-SOUND OF MONEY: Regular Joe raspy voiced rocker Eddie Money (formerly New York cop Eddie Mahoney) is not given his due on this short summary of career songs. Although the basic classics are here, from the early RNB-tinted BABY HOLD ON and TWO TICKETS TO PARADISE to later high water marks TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT (a retro Ronnie Spector tribute featuring the sultry siren herself) and the steamy SHAKIN', too much CD space is given over to pedestrian "new" tracks and non-hits. Why his stellar second album CAN'T HOLD BACK (which featured choice efforts MAYBE I'M A FOOL and GIMME SOME WATER) was ignored in favor of PEACE IN OUR TIME and the misleadingly titled WHERE'S THE PARTY is one for the books. And why are the lovely TRINIDAD and his soulful take on Smokey Robinson's YOU REALLY GOT A HOLD ON ME nowhere to be heard here? If you're a true fan of Money (the man, not the moolah), you already have his best albums anyhoo, so do yourself a favor; fire up your CD burner and create a compilation worthy of his legacy. Just think of all the cute monickers you could apply to it...EDDIE MONEY'S TREASURE CHEST, EDDIE MONEY-GOLD, EDDIE MONEY-COP ROCK, etc., etc., etc. RATING: THREE BILLS

Not Too Shabby Of A CD

This cd aint a bad buy for a casual fan, plus its cheap. But of course like most best of and greatest hits packages there is a shortage of songs."Endless Nights" should have been on here, and a few others. This was made before the newer hits cds that are out now with 15+ songs."Looking Through The Eyes Of A Child" would have been a big hit had it been a single...oh well i still love it.Maybe my favorite here. I crank it up in my car when i play it because of the good songs all here. With all the Eddie hits cds out there compared to this one there isnt much of a difference. With the exception of a few different songs.Which ever one you get you are sure to get the biggest hits first and foremost.
One of the better Eddie Money compilations

Being only a casual Eddie Money fan, I picked up this cd years ago just to get the favorites that I would often hear on the radio. Recently I've been considering purchasing one of the newer compliations (last year's best of or the new Essential cd) in order to get a better range of his songs and also to get the remastered versions of some of my favorites. Having not listened to this cd in quite a while, I took this one of the cd rack and had a listen. Most of these songs are still great and still hold up today. Here's a song-by-song rating:

1) Baby Hold On - 5 stars
2) Two Tickets To Paradise - 5 stars
3) Peace In Our Time - 5 stars
4) Where's The Party? (Live) - 2 stars (poor attempt at an anthem-type song)
5) I Wanna Go Back - 5 stars
6) Walk On Water - 3 stars (okay song but I don't think this one holds up as well because it sounds a little too 80's-ish)
7) Shakin' - 5 stars
8) Take Me Home Tonight - 5 stars
9) Think I'm In Love - 5 stars
10) Looking Through The Eyes of A Child - 4 stars
11) No Control - 1 star (probably the worst song on the cd)
12) We Should Be Sleeping - 2 star (just feel this one is mediocre even though it is uptempo)
13) Stop Steppin' On My Heart - 3 stars (not terrible but not that great either)

Overall, this is a really good cd (if only Sony would remaster it but that's not likely considering the newer compilations) and is right up near the top of the list of the best Eddie Money compilations. As other reviewers have noted, none of these compliations have all the "essential" songs. I think I would have rather seen the 3 songs I rated as 1 or 2 stars replaced with other songs that were either bigger hits or just better songs like "Endless Nights", "Maybe I'm A Fool", and say "Gimmie Some Water".
