A musical holiday extravaganza Submitted on: 2009-10-29 |

I got this CD when it came out in 1992. This one tops the first CD with the red cover. 19 songs, most of which put you right in the holiday mood. My personal favorite tracks include:
Tom Petty - Christmas All Over Again
Luther Vandross - The Christmas Song
Frank Sinatra & Cyndi Lauper - S. Claus is Coming To Town
Darlene Love & Ronnie Spector - Rockin' Around the Xmas Tree
Vanessa Williams - What Child is This
Tevin Campbell - O Holy Night
Wilson Phillips - Silent Night
Most of the other tracks are okay. The last one by Sinead O'Connor is a bit unusual, but then so is she. Ironically, the year this CD came out, Sinead made headlines when she tore up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live. I'm not sure if she ever recovered from that, publicity wise. But overall, a fantastic CD that I always listen to during the holidays. A MUST HAVE for your Christmas collection. |

Terrific Modern Christmas CD Submitted on: 2008-12-09 |

| While I think both AVSC Cd's are pretty terrific, bringing old Christmas songs to whole new generations, I think this second volume is better performed , with a better selection. You just can't compare The Eurythnics singing Winter Wonderland to Luther Vandross's Christmas Song. And Ann and Nancy Wilson's version of Blue Christmas is now one of my favorites. Lot's of fantastic performances, puts me in the Christmas spirit every time I play it!!! |

This CD Rocks! Submitted on: 2007-12-13 |

| This is the best of the series in my opinion. The Tom Petty original that opens the CD is worth the cost of the CD alone. It is the single best rock and roll Christmas song ever written. Ann and Nancy Wilson deliver a great version of Blue Christmas and the Randy Travis Jingle Bell Rock is the best version I have heard. Bon Jovi rocks, Luther adds a bit of great jazz and although I am not typically a fan of hers -- Sinead O'Conner delivers a beautiful version of "I believe in you". There are a few duds, including Run DMC and Michael Bolton, but the bulk of the CD has very strong performances making this a classic Christmas CD in my home. |

fine second album in this series Submitted on: 2007-12-02 |

A Very Special Christmas, Volume 2 brings us great Christmastime numbers by some pretty talented artists. This is a great follow-up album to the first volume in this series; and I recommend it for fans of holiday music.
Randy Travis does a spirited interpretation of "Jingle Bell Rock" with great percussion and electric guitar; Randy's excellent diction makes his performance all the better. One huge highlight of this album is Frank Sinatra and Cyndi Lauper teaming up for a duet of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." The arrangement sports that big band feeling and Frank and Cyndi never miss a beat! Moreover, listen also for Aretha Franklin's "O Christmas Tree;" this sweet number sparkles like gold when Aretha sings it.
Wilson Phillips performs an excellent version of "Silent Night;" but as other reviewers noted this album gets its strength from the duets including the one by Frank and Cyndi. Ronnie Spector and Darlene Love do it up right when they sing an electric rendition of "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree;" and Bonnie Raitt and Charles Brown team up for "Merry Christmas Baby." "Merry Christmas Baby" has a jazzy arrangement that'll keep you toasty warm this Christmastime!
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers do a good job on "Christmas All Over Again." This song really rocks!
The liner notes give us the song credits and the artwork is excellent.
Overall, this is one more Christmas CD you really can't afford to go without. This series is one of the better ones out there and I think you will enjoy this album very much.
