 I wasn't too much for Paul Butterfield either

| I hated "Run Around", and "Hook" as they are too full of harmonica. I figured let's see what else is on here. I wasn't really all that inmpressed with this there was only two songs on here that showed any hope. "Faliable", and "Look Around". I just am very picky about my blues. I am more partial to Blues Guitar, and a Honest to Goodness Blues Shouter; this isn't even close. So my appetite for the blues is limited to Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, B.B.King, and some Robert Johnson. Harmonicas are too depressing for me, so Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, etc. would have a hard time making it into my record collection, and this one definitely isn't going to get in. |

| If you were a BT fan from the very beginning then this one might not excite you all that much. It is less raw, a bit LESS like a great garage band made up of guys who can think as well as play. It has everything, however: It's got the hit single, the nice lyrical melodies, the power ballads, the solos/instrumentals that show how great these guys can play. Really, there is not a single boring or wasted moment on this disc. Good stuff! |

I've been listening to Blues Traveler ever since this album came out (Wow, I was 8 at the time this was released), but unfortuantly, I lost my copy of Four a long time ago. Well, after finally hunting down all of the old cds I used to own, I finally came back to this, and I have to say: This is still one of my favorite albums of all time.
Like many people, I was attracted to the catchiness of the hit single, Run Around. A lot of people remember Blues Traveler to be a poppy alternative band with a real fat singer who absolutly wails on harmonica. What people didn't realize at the time was that Blues Traveler was an established jam band that was based around a solid groove and love of all things funky.
This album doesn't really show their jam side that much, but is still a classic. There's the already mentioned Run Around, but there's some flat out great rockers on here, such as the angry Freedom, Falliable, and the solo showcase of Crash Burn. All members are highly skilled at their instruments, and their flowing blues-based jam rock is highly infectious.
There's also some real thoughtful ballads on here, such as the tender Look Around, which contains some of the best lyrics John Popper has ever penned, and Just Wait, which has a pretty kicking guitar solo to boot.
The album closer, Brother John, and Stand, remain my personal favorites, due to their open, loose feel and playful jamming. It sounds like a band at their creative peak, and also like a band just having fun.
If you're a fan of 90's-era jam bands, this is a no-brainer. This is also a good place to start for first timers. Own it today. |

| Fans of the old Warren Miller ski films (before he left the enterprise) may remember "The Mountains Win Again" playing over the closing credits of one of his better films from the 90s... since that moment, this has captured perfectly for me the particular retro-hippie innocence of the era. I'm partial to the ballads, mainly because BT never really matched their heartfelt vibe and formal studio production in earlier or later work. They freeze a point in time, and if you ever took a road trip or sat on the hill in the car with your date in the early 90's, they probably freeze it for you too. |

I think the best part of this band is their rhythm section. These guys are awesome in their instruments, specially John in harps and guitars. The drummist is good too, the bass marks very well and Chad in guitars, with great solos. Also check out: "Straight up untill morning", with more blues and hard rock. |
