Alex Lifeson pulls a complete 180 in the wrong direction. Submitted on: 2009-10-16 |

| As with Geddy Lee's album "My Favorite Headache", I expected to hear something like Rush. I was way off base. At least with Geddy Lee's album, there are elements of Rush followed by his own creativity. This album was disurbingly terrible! It sounds like he had Marilyn Manson writing his lyrics. I just find it hard to believe that he's so f---ing negative on here. He's got a hell of a lot of talent as a musician but I thought it was wasted here. Sorry Alex (if you're reading this). If you're looking for a "Rush sound alike" album, look elsewhere. |

Disappointing for Alex's debut disc Submitted on: 2009-10-09 |

I'm, like most who review this I'd imagine, a big Rush fan. That doesn't mean I expect this to be a Rush record. On the contrary, I want to hear something different and off his well-beaten path. I am mildly frustrated that it's NOT more of a deviation from Rush, but that isn't my major complaint. The music is nothing special, and that leaves the words as the portion of this outing that draws one's attention. I'm offended by the misogyny and violence of Lifeson's lyrics. I bought this new, listened to it once, and a few years ago, I took it to the used CD store, where it had 3-4 companions. I didn't even copy it for later perusal, and with discs that miss the mark with me, I usually wait a while and give them another chance. Not this verbal locker room tantrum.
Neil Peart writes the literate and clever Rush lyrics, pretty much on his own. I'd have thought that Alex would have had years of accumulated lyrical flow in him, but all he has to say here is how much he dislikes women, and how he has a passion for...well..rape. I expected a lot more from this brilliant, uber-talented musician. I was sorely disappointed with "Victor" and hope we can hear something substantially better from a follow-up. |

DRunk as usual, I dusted this one off for the hell of it. Alex will always be the "third" one, and on this record, he reveals himself to also be the "dark" one. I can relate. I love RUSH. So do you.
Check this out. Bonus points if you dig I Mother Earth. |

Rush on Steroids! Submitted on: 2009-04-07 |

| Alex Lifeson takes no prisoners on his first (and only) solo effort. If you love Rush, you'll love Victor. My advice, though, is to start with track 2. Track one is dark and disturbing and really doesn't fit with the rest of the record. But the rest of Victor is incredible - play loud! |

Unexpected, Morbid, but Interesting Submitted on: 2009-02-21 |

Victor by Alex Lifeson doesn't sound much like Rush, unlike Geddy Lee's solo effort. It's a good album and very strange but definitely worth buying and listening to especially if you are a Rush and Alex Lifeson fan. Alex is often overshadowed by Geddy and Neil, but he is an excellent guitarist and musician in his own right and has really impressed me live in the last few tours.
The songs and reviews:
Don't Care-Angry lyrics but good hard rocking song
Promise- Similar to Don't Care, a little less angry
Start Today-Singer sounds a bit like the earlier Geddy, decent song
Mr. X.-Good Instrumental
At the End-Very dark and mysterious song, good but morbid
Sending out a Warning- Good hard rocking song
Shut Up Shuttin' Up- Bluesy and funny song, one of the best on the album.
Strip And Go Naked- Instrumental my favorite on this album
The Big Dance-Dark, angry hard rocking song
Victor-Very weird, interesting in a strange way
I Am the Spirit- Decent song sounds most like progressive songs of the 90's
