True R&B and just GREAT real Music Submitted on: 2007-08-02 |

| A true talent as writers, procedures, performers. They would have to be great performers, with all the Motown classic hits they wrote for Marvin and Tami. If you do your homework you will find out they have written song for most of the Greatest artist of all time. This CD is a good (killer Slow jams!)start for the younger people who do not know who they are as a group. Do not be surprise to find that they have written songs that are being re-done, and sampled. To think they still get checks for the classic Motown hits. This is why the music still sounds great today. I recall this Album as a kid, I was about 9, and my mother user play this Tape in her car over and over again; and we get to my destination that person would be playing the LP. At the time I love `It seems to hang on' (funky mid timple song), but you have to check out `Get up and do something' wow this song was and still is a funky jam. When I as a kid I did not understanding what they where singing about. Well as an adult I bought the CD, and now that I understand what they where talking about, they have a play list on my ipod of all the great albums that you can find. Some of the very early stuff you can not find, but all the major albums are now on CD. I say pick up as many as you can. Start with this CD, it's a must have for any R&B or great music collector. Now That I live in NYC, I am able to see them sometimes at the bar/club they own. |

After all these years...IT'S STILL SOUNDS GOOD! Submitted on: 2002-06-08 |

| Ashford and Simpson made some of the best soul music in the 70s and 80s. They are most known for their 1984 hit, "Solid" but it is their earlier material for Warner Bros. Records that sounds the best! My favorite songs are "It Seem To Hang On", "Get Up and Do Something" and the title track. It's ashame that music this good is no longer being made and heard on the airwaves. Today's soul music is alright but I think the infusion of hip hop makes soul music today lose its quality and endurance and prevents anything from becoming classics, unlike the wonderful songs made in the late 70s and early 80s. Buy this album and treat your ears to what real soul music sounds like....believe you will not regret it. |

Hopsack and Silk at their finest. Submitted on: 1999-02-02 |

| This is a must have for all silky soul aficionados. Nothing can capture the true essence of this husband and wife singer/songwriter duo like the title track. The tune "It Seems To Hang On" is a song that kinda leaves a lot to the imagination--a truly inspired version of it, however, can be found on A&S's live album, "Performance". "Ain't It A Shame" which, I think, was intially to showcase Nick's vocal prowess, ends up showing off Val's pipes in the few lines of the refrain. "You Always Could" is vintage A&S. Is it still good...? I'd say it is. |
