The Best Of 1984 or 2009... Submitted on: 2009-11-09 |
|
I bought this CD originally in 1984...well..the cassette version and it grew on me immediately.
Twenty-six years later I had to reorder it. I completely wore out the original.
This has got to be Prince's greatest work ever. I have all of his works and there are a lot of great works..."Dirty Mind" "1999", "Sign 'o' The Times", "Controversey"...but this lp truly stands the test of time. |

Purple Rain was not a Soundtrack Album Submitted on: 2009-07-26 |
|
"Purple Rain" was not a soundtrack album. It was a studio release from Prince and the Revolution. The soundtrack would have to most definitely include songs by other artists. However, the Purple Rain album was not a soundtrack! Some people have complained about the lack of songs from the other people in the movie.
I believe the description is incorrect on Amazon. The mp3 version of the title track is not the original from the album. The original from the album was far longer than 4 minutes. I don't know why they don't have the original, but I would buy the CD instead just to increase my odds of getting "the real thing."
The songs on the album were at the height of Prince's 80s fame. I'd listen to Purple Rain on a regular basis if I could find the full version. Some of the other tracks are more of a novelty for the sake of the complete album. |

25 Years Old, As Good As Ever Submitted on: 2009-06-15 |
|
| Another review of this landmark album is certainly not necessary but I figured on occasion of it's 25th anniversary that I'd write one anyway. When this came out I was 7 years old. Seven! I didn't know what "masturbating in a magazine" meant. Who cared! The music was incredible. It was all we heard on the radio, we also had the cassette tape and we played it incessantly on hot 1984 summer's days in my Mom's Datsun. I still remember listening to "When Doves Cry" and the smell of the leather seats on hot days. We continued to hear it certainly into 1985 and the album really has never left me. It's one of those ones you can't imagine life without and one you can't leave out of your childhood memories. Simply put I was listening to this when I was 7, 17, 27 and I'll be listening to it forever. |
