Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

I really like this album!

It's always nice to hear something new and different for me in the r&b field. I think Karyn white's 1988 Album is her best. I actually downloaded this album off of a packet of old school r and b albums and i was surpised at how good this cd was. Superwoman is an excellent track. I also thought Secret Rendevous was pretty catchy. She basically had a powerhouse R&B production team writing this album for her,so I was glad that I wasn't disappointed with the results of this album. If your really into r&b then please don't over look this cd! It's def. worth a try. Karyn White is extremely talented!
A WINNER

I have listened to this album over and over again. It really takes me back to my most memorable childhood moments. I remember seeing how beautiful Karyn White was, and I remember dancing to "The Way You Love Me" and "Secret Rendezvous" as if it were yesterday. The album still sounds great.

Karyn never got the credit she deserved. I just wish she would have released more music. Like a lot of artists out of the New Jack Era her career was brief but memorable with songs like "Love Saw It" and "Superwoman".
"Karyn White"

Karyn White was pretty successful in the 1980s when her self-titled debut was released. Her pretty face, great singing voice and charisma were the ingredients that made her popular. "The Way You Love Me" and "Superwoman" were huge hits. In fact, they came out in the late 80s but were still being played a lot in the early 1990s. Karyn went on to marry one of her producers, Terry Lewis. They later divorced, but one can't help but think that he gave her some nice songs because that was his wife.

"Superwoman" has become an anthem to women who are mistreated by their men. I love this song; Karyn inserts so much emotion throughout that a man would be foolish not to make some changes. Lines like "I've got my pride, I will not cry, but it's making me weak" and "This girl needs more than occasional hugs and a token of love from you to me" help to make this song as effective as it is to women. "The Way You Love Me" is this album's only other strong moment. The beat and melody are very "80s", but this song is amazing nonetheless. The delivery, hook, and lyrics all get two thumbs up. Karyn even treats us to a little sing-rapping. All else found here is alright, but definitely forgettable. "Secret Rendezvous" is a fast track with lots of drum and synthesizer. Her delivery is great but this song sounds quite dated. "Family Man" sounds like something Pebbles would do. Though this song sounds dated, it is a decent song. Babyface adds background vocals to this album, what a treat! It is always nice to hear that talented gentlemen.

If you are a fan of the 80s sound, this album is for you. I liked it alright, but I was not impressed overall. "Make Him Do Right" was released in 1994, and, to me, that is a better compilation than this.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "Superwoman"
2. "The Way You Love Me"
3. "Slow Down"
4. "Tell Me Tomorrow"
5. "Secret Rendezvous"
If you have only one Karyn White album ...

this is obviously the one to have. The LaFace-dominated album was one of L.A. Reid and Babyface's better production jobs. The bouncy "The Way You Love Me" has some of those same light-jazz tones White displayed on Jeff Lorber's "Facts of Love." "Superwoman" became one of the signature LaFace girl-power torch ballads and the tender "Love Saw It" (a duet with Babyface) made each of her first three singles No. 1 on the Billboard R&B Singles charts. Throw in the driving "Secret Rendezvous" (another top five hit on the R&B charts) plus some other decent songs ("Slow Down," "One Wish") and it's deservedly the highlight of White's career.
Superwoman's album, a bit short of superalbum

Karyn White, one of the most attractive singers of her era, released this album after being a virtually an unknown artist for several years. "Superwoman" became an instant hit after its release, and became an anthem for many women out there that agreed with Karyn's sentiments... that women are more than just someone that serve as caddies to their husbands. Her up-tempo hit, "The Way You Love Me" was another chart-topper that made it to mainstream audiences, after initially being considered mainly for the African-American community. This album also includes another popular hit, "Secret Rendezvous", where Babyface even lends a bit of a background vocal to spice up the track. Aside from those three hits, "One Wish" and "Love Saw It" are nice jams to listen to as well, if you're into a bit of '80's R&B. This album doesn't quite have the firepower that some of the other more popular artists released during this era, but it does lend to the talent that Karyn White is. Karyn White, a former Beauty-Queen, is definitely more than just a pretty face, and it is clearly displayed in this album.
