PP&M's First Album
Submitted on: 2009-11-03
I'm a huge PP&M fan going back to the beginning. My interest in the group has peaked with the recent and tragic death of Mary Travers. This is their first album ("Peter Paul and Mary" - 1963) and was, frankly, pretty rough, both artisticly and technically. We see a huge improvement in their subsequent albums resulting in the Peter Paul and Mary phenomenon throughout our country and the world for these many years. How lucky we all are to have them in our hearts. My highest reccomendations for their next two albums, "Moving" and "In the Wind".

I liked this cd. I especially liked the harmonies on the tracks Blowin in the Wind, and Go Tell it on the Mountain. The song Polly Von was sad, and the ending was unexpected. Thank you for the music Peter Paul and Mary! Please continue to sing and make good music.
a timeless album from Peter, Paul & Mary

In The Wind was first released on vinyl (remember vinyl?) back in the 1963; and I still have that record album today. Naturally, I have the CD version also because I played the record so much I wore the grooves all the way down! The quality of the sound is excellent on this classic album from Peter, Paul & Mary; and the cover shot of the trio is very well done, too.

"Very Last Day" starts the CD off well with a timeless folk rock tune with its catchy melody; Peter, Paul & Mary harmonize perfectly and I thoroughly enjoy hearing them singing this tune over and over again. Peter, Paul & Mary sing with all their hearts and souls; and this enhances their performance even more. There's also "Hush-A-Bye;" this tender lullaby gets the royal treatment from this trio and when the men join in after Mary has started the lyrics this number truly takes flight.

"Rocky Road" is solid folk music at its very best; the guitar work is very fine and the trio performs this flawlessly. "Rocky Road" charms me with its beauty and I really like this song. "Tell It On The Mountain" is probably somewhat more known to people better than "Rocky Road;" "Tell It On The Mountain" calls for freedom for every human being in this world. "Tell It On The Mountain" remains a relevant song in our times for obvious reasons.

"Stewball" is easily a major highlight of this album; "Stewball" is a touching ode to a racehorse that was very special to its owner. "Stewball" gets a fine arrangement from Peter, Paul & Mary and I never heard them sounding better. "Stewball" also has a catchy melody and the lyrics are so endearing that you'll probably remember this ballad for quite some while to come.

"Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" is a sensitive cover of a great song by Bob Dylan; Peter, Paul & Mary perform this with panache and they never miss a beat. Their timing and their excellent diction enhance this ballad all the more. They also do a wonderful job on "Quit Your Low Down Ways." "Quit Your Low Down Ways" requires them to change rapidly between different tempos but for this trio it was easy. Their talents always carry them through. The album ends strong with Peter, Paul & Mary performing another cover of a Bob Dylan ballad, "Blowin' In The Wind." Sadly, "Blowin' In The Wind" also remains relevant in these times.

In The Wind is a strong album from one of the greatest folk music groups ever--Peter, Paul & Mary. We owe so much to them for their sharing their artistry with us. This is an absolute essential for fans of this trio; and people just getting to know Peter, Paul & Mary would do well to get this album. This is also great entertainment for fans of folk music in general.
