I listed to "Sing a Song of Song" for two years straight Submitted on: 2008-10-11 |

| This is my favorite album from the past 20 years, easy. I wanted to absorb it and I went a bit overboard: I made a tape with Sing a Song on it over and over on both sides and I listened to that tape every time I travelled, went running, or was sitting alone for two years. Sick, I know, but here's the thing: that was 8 or 9 years ago and today, when I hear this album, I'm just blown away and I can't stop listening to it and start playing "Sing a Song" over and over again lol. |

| I am South African who have grown up in what we call townships (where blacks were collectively situated during the Apartheid Regime). This CD reminds me those days while growing up, neighbourhood Brothers would gather around one of the guys small house and listening to LP's. On a hot summer day with the speaker put on to the top of the volume and everyone could hear the music. I love this CD, he's doing those 70's for me here, my favourite is "Brother Hubbard" this tune has some beutifull bass lines. "She Waits For The New Sun" is somewhat melancholic but nice you're in that state of struggle but you see someone whom you regard as more struggling than you, but this person does'nt give up. I've alway liked Kenny Kirkland as a pianist, he had his unique phrases that one would not miss. Tain my drummist, I had an opportunity to see him on tour with Brandford Marsalis in South Africa. I like the wayhe fits himself into the band. His rolling is super! Nat Reeves is new to me, he's got that stricking sound, like the great George Duvivier. |

This music is so inspirational to me, and is easily Kenny's best album. Each song has its own unique feel-- the title really means a lot. The rhythm section is great, and seems to play the exact things Kenny wants in his compositions.
I listened to this CD 4 times a day for 3 months at one point. I couldn't get over how good it was. This is a must-buy!!!! |

This is is probably the best of KG's albums. It's up there with "Standard of Language". Can't get enough of it. If I had to choose favourite tracks, it would be 1 Two Down & One Across, 2 November 15, 4 Sing a Song of Song, 5 Brother Hubbard, 7 House That Nat Built.
Kenny Kirkland is sizzling on this one, I must say. |
