Seemed not a good idea, but it's GOLD ! Submitted on: 2009-06-03 |

Alive was my first real approach to Oingo Boingo. And I think it was a bad move. See, the idea of re-recording songs in a "live" context but in a studio and without a crowd should sound stupid, especially for the songs that were part of last year's album.
But the fact is, those re-recordings are incredible. They sound killer, some are a bit uptempo without sounding forced or "thrown away", guitar solos are even more insane, and these are many songs on this collection that could be considered an improvement from the originals... which is already saying much, as Boingo albums were great in the first place.
If you're a fan but are frightened by the "re-recording for money and that's ol' useless stuff", do yourself a favor, try it. But if you're novice, I suggest that you first buy Dead Man's Party or Good For Your Soul, then noodle around with other records, and then discover this definite pre-1990 best-of. |

Grey Matter, Gigantor, Gigantor, oh oh oh ohhhh Submitted on: 2007-11-17 |

| I grew up on Oingo Boingo in some ways living in Cali for a time listening to the Baha Cali radio in San Diego in the early 80's (oh man that was the day!). Today I was just listening to Gray Matter and I swear I connected it with the theme to Gigantor, anyone else get that connection? LOL. Grey Matter, Grey Matter oh oh oh ohhhh, Gigantor Gigantor, Giangantooooor. Just a useless boomer thought. Great band to play when you are doing your 80's party thing! |

| I purchased the CD for my son in Canada, to introduce him to the group. I have been living in France since 1981 and actually saw the Mystic Nights Of The Oingo Boingo when they were a Theatre Group and performed at a party I attended in the 1970's. I purchased a cassette tape of this album at my local thrift store in Cherbourg, France on the basis of having once seen the Theatre Group. I was astonished to find how the group had evolved over time and found the music to be some of the most brilliant I have encountered in sixty years of life on earth, some of it as a professional rock musician. The combination of talents brought together in this group and their telepathic musical "mind meld" is Cosmic. The songs from the musical standpoint are wonderful group acts of creative genius. Bravo and thank you to Danny Elfman, Steve Bartek and every player in the group. Wonderful Stuff! I found something to like in every song. |

Warning: Highly Addictive Submitted on: 2007-10-10 |

| This album is NOT just for long-time Oingo Boingo fans, take it from me. I discovered them only recently, and after hearing them, I couldn't get enough. Then I found this album and decided to get it, and now I can NOT stop listening to it. I'm not sure how this band was able to actually sound BETTER live (without an audience, it's true) than in a studio, but Oingo Boingo did it. The music is rich and complex, and Danny Elfman's unique voice is in top form. (NO ONE sounds quite like him, by the way.) And these are the songs Boingo LIKES to play, so each one is manic and infectiously catchy and, well, CRAZY fun. I'm a new fan, and even I can tell, this is the band at their best. I only wish I was old enough to have seen them in concert. |
