 Hardline - Double Eclipse

I first learned of this album when it was mentioned on another review. I pulled up this review and was stunned by all of the 5 star reviews. After seeing that, I had to have it. I acquired this album, listened to it once, and almost threw it in the garbage. I was incredibly disappointed. I think it was just the fact that I had read 40 5 star reviews and there was no way it was going to live up to the standard I had created in my mind. Luckily I decided I wasn't going to give up so easily and continued playing this album.
At this point I am ready to say this record is a masterpiece. It is seriously some of the best straight up rock and roll I have ever heard. I play it all the time. The singing is amazing. Neal Schon's guitar is melodic, tasteful, and incredible at the same time. The rhythm section is tight. How songs like "Everything" and "Hot Cherie" weren't huge radio hits I'll never understand. This is a CD that when you put it in you will play it straight through, start to finish, and never have to skip a song. If for some reason you have any doubt about the quality of this music, but this CD and all doubt will be removed - maybe not on the first listen, but after a few spins, you will get it. |

| The first Hardline CD, Double Eclipse is excellent and leaves you wanting to hear more hard-rock anthems from this band. Some of my favorite songs from Double Eclipse are, Rhythm in a Red Car, Hot Cherie, Everything, and In the Hands of Time. Also, check out Hardline II CD for Hold Me Down, Y, Paralyzed, Do or Die, Your Eyes, Way It Is, Way It Goes and Hardline's 3rd CD, Leaving the End Open for the song titled, Pieces of Puzzles, among others. |

Hardline....a melodic hard rock classic!

I haven't seen Hardline in concert since 1993 when they were opening for bands like Van Halen and Mr. Big, but the effect has stayed with me since it is the best show I've ever attended. These guys had enough energy for 3 bands! If you went to a Hardline show, you were thoroughly rocked, not to mention carried away by the vocals and lyrics in ballads like "Can't Find My Way" and "In The Hands Of Time." I can't say that anyone's songs have affected me the way these have.
Hardline is a powerful, hard rocking band and the songs have great hooks and melodies, killer guitar riffs, and lead singer Johnny Gioeli....actually I consider him to be one of the best voices in rock. He's got the soaring tenor but also a great edge (and sometimes growl!) in his voice that set these songs on fire. He's a rare combination of melodic rock and hard rock/metal so for that reason alone I'd love this album. But I also loved the over-the-top production, killer guitar riffs, solid bassline and multi-part vocal harmonies. You can look up other people's track by track descriptions if you want, but suffice it to say you will be rocked from head to toe by this disc....the songs will just crash against any resistance you could give to the way they make you feel. |
