The Best Richard Marx Set Available By Far..... Submitted on: 2009-03-04 |
|
| For Richard Marx fans looking for that "best of" package, this is the one to get. All of his Top 40 hits are here except "Too Late To Say Goodbye" which peaked at a respectable #12 in 1990. It's a glaring omission that still doesn't take away from the power of this collection. From rockers like "Satisfied" and "Take This Heart", to his softer side with "Angel's Lullaby" and "Now and Forever", Richard Marx displays why he was one of the top artists from the late 1980's into the next decade. A stunning greatest hits album....I love it! Get it for yourself or a friend. |

Greatest Hits & Some That Should've Been Submitted on: 2009-02-27 |

I'm a pretty big fan of Richard Marx & own almost every album he has ever produced. But it wasn't always that way. When he first came on the music scene way back in 1987, I thought he was pretty talented & I liked a couple of his songs but for whatever reason, I didn't really get into him. It might've been because I bought into the myth that he was just another wannabe hard rocker or maybe becuz he mostly had ballads on the radio or maybe even becuz it wasn't considered "cool" to say you were a fan of his. But when the songs "Hazard" & "Keep Coming Back" were released as singles in 1991, I decided to buy his then current album (Rush Street) & the rest as they say, was history. I soon discovered that Marx was not only a great singer but also a great songwriter as well & he had many terrific songs that were right up there with the radio hits. I eventually went back & bought his 1st & 2nd albums & liked them even better than the 3rd one. I could have kicked myself for not buying these albums sooner cuz I had really missed out on some hidden gems. Luckily I finally came around & am now one of his biggest fans. :)
As for this album, it is strictly a collection of Marx's biggest radio hits & they are some of the best songs of the 80's & 90's bar none. They're all great but my favorites here are the awesome rockers: "Don't Mean Nothing", "Satisfied" & "The Way She Loves Me". The tender & lush ballads: "Endless Summer Nights" & "Angelia". The dark & mysterious: "Hazard" & the sexy jazz influenced: "Keep Coming Back" with the late/great Luther Vandross doing stellar b/g vocals. Also, the inclusion of "Touch Of Heaven" from the underrated 1997 album: "Flesh & Bone" was a very nice surprise because it was never released as a single. It has a terrific R&B groove to it, passionate vocals by Marx & is a terrific song that should've been a major hit for him but wasn't.
So to sum it all up, you can't go wrong with this collection & it is a great compilation Of Richard's best hit songs. Even so, I highly recommend that anyone who really likes these songs, checkout the actual albums that these hits came from. You might be pleasantly surprised at the number of great hit worthy songs that never made it on the radio.
P.S. If you guys wanna hear some more great songs that never made it onto any of his official albums, make sure and checkout a site called: Forgottenmelodies dot com. They have lots of rare albums by popular artists & several un-official Richard Marx albums as well. I have one cd that has an amazing acoustic version of "The way she loves me" as well as several B-sides, un-released demos & live cuts from several different shows that Marx did back in the 80's & 90's. Sounds great too! |

A Trip Down Memory Lane Submitted on: 2008-06-25 |

Richard Marx was the first pop artist I saw in concert and listening to this Greatest Hits CD brings back all the memories of that amazing night. These are the songs you dreamed of girls to, kissed girls to and danced with girls to in the '80s and early '90s. The music is emotional and moving and the liner notes are incredible because Marx gets personal (especially in the dedication to his father - wow). For the price, you simply CAN NOT beat this if you are a fan of Marx's music or you were in school during the time these great songs were released.
No regrets on this purchase ... promise.
PS: Check out the great solos on Angelia. :) |
