Fastbacks at the top of their game Submitted on: 2008-10-08 |

| Just when I thought way back when that they couldn't get any better than Zucker, they prove me wrong! "Mansions" is a solid album with a great energy and hooks like nobody's business. Kurt Bloch is a madman & a genius. I once saw him on stage in Chicago play *both* guitar parts (when Lulu was out pregnant) for a the entire set, and pull it off! ...Then, he *literally* pulled it off -- his guitar strings-- during the finale! Yanked them off with his bare hands! Saw them once before at the now-long-gone Lounge Ax (R.I.P.), jumping off of speakers, covering a Pixies song, and completely owning the stage. The Fastbacks will be missed, but this album is a glimpse into an incredible band in top form. |

As Good As It Gets Submitted on: 2005-12-31 |

The Fastbacks, and this CD in particular, offer one of my favorite memories of college radio. They epitomized a band I felt could have sold out and changes a few things and made it big. They didn't do any of that.
All they do is continue to produce fun, fast tracks that rock. I particularly like "Fortune's Misery," one of the catchiest songs EVER! Add to it great tracks like "Find Your Way" the cover of the Who's "Girl's Eyes," and "Just Say," and you've got a very ear-pleasing piece of work here.
Buy it. This one seems to get overlooked for some reason, but it is worth the listen to and the purchase price. |

A mid-90's Gem of pop punk.... Submitted on: 2004-09-17 |

Although a NW staple since at least the early 1980's, the Fastbacks recorded some really fanatastic and sophisticated CD's in the mid-90's. This is my favorite, a tight group of songs with some real masterpieces. The music here is loud, fast, fun -- and probably a bit too smart for a mass audience.
Kurt Bloch's power guitar playing, clever songs, and the signature dual female vocals never sounded better. The Fastbacks' CD's of the mid-90's are a lot better than most of the NW grunge that sold a lot more during the same period. |
