The brilliance of Ryuichi Sakamoto shines through Submitted on: 2006-01-31 |

I'll state up front that I'm a Ryuichi Sakamoto fan and it's been a pleasure to listen to him dabble in many different styles and do them well.
This album was released around the same time Kraftwerk's "Computer World" but sort of took a back seat, with the exception of "Firecracker" capturing R&B radio in the U.S. as well.
Notice a little Parliament/Funkadelic in the vocal parts of "La Femme Chinoise".
It's amazing that these compositions were made before MIDI, yet they are almost perfectly executed.
If you're interested in other material, check out Ryuichi's tranquil Taboo (Gohatto) soundtrack. It's my favorite soundtrack ever. (The movie's great too.) It inspired me to work on my first soundtrack.
His other soundtracks are worth a listen as well. |

| I first heard this in the late 70's or early 80's on the R&B/Soul station and had to have it. Now that is crossover appeal! I ran out and got it right away. The LP was a translucent yellow vinyl unlike the normal black disks for those that remember what an album looked like. I knew I was in for a treat. This album ranges from uptempo dance beats to smooth almost jazzy tunes. I lost that album and have been trying to find it ever since. |

Very enjoyable! Submitted on: 2002-05-27 |

| Hi. I love this recording. Actually 'side2' only. I don't know why the tracks like computer game (invader) should have been included. It is just cheesy. First 1-5st tracks are OK. From the track #6, it gets really better though. Especially last track is incredible! Another complaint of me would be the weak drums part. The drummer should have done something more than just boring rhythm keeping. Loving this album, I tried some other YMO CDs but I had to sell them. The bad part I found in this 78' recording had been enlarged but that catching melody had gone. |

Top ten album of the last 20 years! Submitted on: 1999-11-11 |

| I bought the vinyl version of this in 1979 and have been scratching the groove deeper ever since (not true, in 1992 I did buy the CD!). This is one of the best albums ever recorded and the testimonies to YMO, due to this album, are endless- Brian Eno, Rick Wakeman, Pet Shop Boys et al. The melodies are complicated but uncomplicated. Hum along, whistle, listen closely, and pick out a new overlay every time! Great value for money. The only problem is that I have gone through one wife and numerous girlfriends who just cannot see the attraction. |
