Nice CD Submitted on: 2002-12-15 |

| While this CD doesn't have the strenght of recordings like "Sword of God" or "Featuring Birds", it is certainly not a bad CD. It's not that it tends to be a darker recording, that's not the problem. I think it is with its sound; it lacks quality, unlike Quasi's other CD's considering that a) their are just two people and b) they play like hell on earth. A good remastering of this CD will make it a jewel. Anyway, this CD is a must for your collection if you're a Quasi unconditional. If this is your first experience with Quasi, you can buy it and then contrapose it with their other recordings. Ah, one last thing: I really love this CD's cover. Cool. So, check this out. Enjoy. |

| I love Sam Coomes. 1) He's a tremendous musician whether on the roxichord, guitar, bass or whatever. (His bass playing is second only to the great Paul McCartney. Check him out live, he really brings out the melody on the bass.) 2) He has a achingly sweet voice. 3) He writes great melodies. 4) He's a bit paranoid, or as his lyrics are. 5) He's good looking: boyish but rugged. I love Janet: 1) She's the most inventive rock drummer since Keith Moon. 2) She's hot. 3) She plays in great bands. 4) She plays loud. 5) I have a thing for female drummers. How can you not love Quasi? I know, it's weird: a distorted keyboard and drums. But get over it. And this album is the darkest of the three major releases. It's also the most endearing. What about the epic battle between a ghost vs. a vampire? I think that Sam was wrong on this one: the ghost would win as the ghost is non-corporeal. Ok, the vampire may be cooler. And all of these disenchanted love songs--how beautiful and honest. 'The Iron Worm' is Quasi as Led Zeppelin. And the closure with 'Clouds' is just perfect. What more could you want from music? Catchy tunes, good imagery, inventive sounds... strife. |

Great CD, great band :D Submitted on: 1999-08-04 |

| A great CD. :D Some people would call Quasi's songs the products of a cynical depressive, but they are definitely not depressing! The only problems I have with this album are that the recording seems kind of bad (sam coomes has a bad mic or something :<) and it doesn't have the catchiness and variety of Featuring "Birds", which I definitely recommend getting first. But this has some great songs and a lot of symbolism which is good but doesn't quite work as well as FB. But still it's a great album if you like FB. :D |

Can you believe this is only 2 people? Submitted on: 1999-01-05 |

| No guitar, just a guy standing on his head on a keyboard and a really cool (and good) chick drummer. This Portland, Or based couple (recently divorced) backed Elliot Smith on his recent tour. These songs are amazingly thoughtful and full. The lyrics are fresh, caustic, and delicious. |
