Classic Chick on Par w/ Return To Forever Submitted on: 2007-10-05 |

Anyone who claims this isn't as good as the stellar RTF lineup featuring Stanley Clark, Lenny White, etc. is missing the point--this is a more personal vision of Chick's and he got the people who he was the closest to in order to fulfill that vision. Eddie Gomez has tact and poise on bass, and plays acoustic bass with incredible aplomb. Steve Gadd lays down some of his all-time best drumming and arguably his best song with Night Sprite. The entire album sounds like part-jazz, part classical, and part-rock. It is really the funky side of rock. This is a jazz-rock staple. If you're a drummer you should listen to The Leprechaun because this was one of the albums that put Steve Gadd on the map. The vocal stylings of Gayle Moran is not my favorite portion of the album however she still puts a nice mystical quality to the proceedings, and this is precisely what Chick intended.
The main reason why a few people rate this album under 5 stars is because they want a different side of Chick to play. Some are into the later Return to Forever outings--but this band is actually the original RTF lineup in many ways! It features classical instruments rather than the electric guitar, though. You don't have to prove your loyalty to a different style of Chick(he has so many!) by downgrading this recording. Try to hear it on its own merits--that of a concept jazz-rock-fantasy piece--and you should be richly rewarded. Plus this is the first of a few incredible recordings with the same rhythm section--also suggested is My Spanish Heart. |

Jim Pugh was the trombonist, former Woody Herman member. And yes Gayle Moran, she's not the best of singers let's just say.
Still great electric Chick. |

That's a music gem.- Submitted on: 2007-02-09 |

| This one was the first LP that I have bought in my life (saving the money to buy my food in the high school), and has marked my taste by the music of a form that has made me take a persecution for good music, charming, rich and sophisticated, over 30, yes, for over 30 years ago. It continues being one of the best done musical works for me, one of the ten CD's favorite of between more than thousands than I have. I am hoping something better to listen in this kind of music, even from Chick itself, but it does not happen... |

Amazing .."If you listen" Submitted on: 2007-01-10 |

| I purchased this album after seeing Chick's performance at the Blue Note this past year with his "Leprechaun Band". Most of his covers were from this album and the "Friends" album. To see chick do these songs made me understand this album much more. But you really have to sit and listen because you can easily miss some key detailing of this disk. And also to mention Gayle is amazing on this disk, Granted she is not the most amazing singer but her voice compliments these tunes with a pin point acuracy. Please puchase you will see and understand what I am saying. |

SUCKATHON! Submitted on: 2006-02-15 |

| This album was terrible. It was as if Chick was talking to his wife and said, "Hey baby, why don't you sing on my album?" and she was all like, "Ok, but I really don't know how to sing." Don't buy this album. As a beginning Chick fan, I thought that all Chick Corea albums were good. I was dead wrong. After listening to this album, I was downright embarrassed for Chick, because I knew that he would look back on that album years into the future and just frown. Do yourself a favor and buy something better like Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, or even the disco album, Where Have I Known You Before? Spare yourself the humility |
