Best of the Oldies! Submitted on: 2009-09-24 |

| My favorite album from the 60's!! Great vocals by Beverly Bivens!! My boyfriend and I bought this album together............bad mistake!!! When we broke up....he took the album!!! I have thought a lot about this album over the last 40+ years and had no idea it was on CD!! I recently found it on Amazon, and at a fantastic price!! I listen to it everyday, and think of the old boyfriend who owes me at least $4.50 for my half of the album!!! |

We Five always turned out wonderful pop/folk rock songs; and they always sounded so good when they harmonized. We Five remains one of the best groups of the entire twentieth century and when you hear these songs you'll know the reasons why--they never faltered and they delved deep into each ballad to give blood and please their fans. I love it! The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent; and it has all the tunes from their two record albums entitled You Were on My Mind and Make Someone Happy.
"Love Me Not Tomorrow" starts the CD with We Five singing at their very best; they handle challenging tempo and key changes like the pros they were and still remain! "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" is heavenly; I like their rendition of this classic tune and they just plain sound good. In addition, "My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music" really impresses me; they perform this with sensitivity and that's grand.
"If I Were Alone" uses the guitar very well in the musical arrangement; and I really like "Tonight" from "West Side Story." "Tonight" is done to perfection and it's easily a major highlight of this CD. Then there's the huge We Five hit which is actually a remake of Ian and Sylvia's tune entitled "You Were on My Mind." We Five made "You Were on My Mind" all their own with their excellent diction and especially their sophisticated phrasing. "Can't Help Falling In Love" is a most romantic ballad that has We Five squarely front and center; and the music fits in perfectly with their vocals.
"Small World" gets the royal treatment from We Five; they change the tempo just a bit to place their own stamp on this tune and it all holds its own very well. "Softly as I Leave You" is very easy on the ear even if the lyrics aren't all that happy; the We Five treatment of this ballad is all THAT good. "I Can Never Go Home Again" has a gentle folk rock flavor to it that I like so much; and there's another gem in "Make Someone Happy." We Five delivers "Make Someone Happy" with a `60s beat to it that sounds great even today--awesome!
"Somewhere" is another tune from "West Side Story;" and We Five does this up right! The drums add a lot to the arrangement, too. "Our Day Will Come" is another special number on this album; the guitars couldn't be better and they harmonize faultlessly. "What's Goin' On" is extra fine music; and "The Inch Worm" is one sweet tune that brings back childhood memories. The album also ends well with We Five performing "You Let a Love Burn Out." This dynamic song has them right in the spotlight.
We Five contributed so much good quality music in the 1960s; and their legacy continues with CDs like this one. I recommend this for their fans and newcomers to their sound should consider getting this CD, too. Although the original lineup is no more, We Five still gives an occasional concert--catch them live if you can! |

What a childhood flashback! Submitted on: 2009-01-06 |
|
| I was born in 1970, but my parents listened to this album on vinyl all through my childhood. I remember in the mid-80's when it got a scratch and how upset my Mom was. We looked for a long time for it on CD. I was searching MP'3s when I found it on CD at Amazon. I immediately ordered 2, one for me and 1 for Mom and Dad. I have'nt given it to them yet, but I assure you if you like folk music it will be well worth the 15 bucks. I have never even listened to the 2nd album. |
