Childhood Memories, September 21, 2011
This review is from: The Military Band: Salute to the Services (Audio CD)
How nice to see this album out on CD format. My dad purchased the LP when it was first released back in the 70's and I grew up listening to it on a real to real transfer until the equipment no longer worked. I spent quite a bit of money getting the tapes transferred over to CD format as a surprise gift to my family, but the inevitable hiss from over use and age was definitely present. This album has brought many years of joy and memories to my family and would recommend it to one and all. The song selection on this CD is second to none. Here's to many more years of joy and memories.

We Want a PARADE!!, August 12, 2011
This review is from: The Military Band: Salute to the Services (Audio CD)
Perhaps you are not old enough to remember when we used to have our military personnel do parades down our main streets. Every one waved American flags, and we all cheered our brave troops. There were no burnings of the flag, no nasty signs, no shouting bad things to our troops. Instead, there was great National Pride as we watched those brave souls march so proudly down our streets. AMERICA WAS ALIVE with pride, gratitude and love. People were actually NICE to each other, no matter how crowded the sidewalks got. Children were carried on their parent's shoulders so they could see our heroes. This music will once again make you want our troops in parades so we can honor them with our cheers of gratitude and pride. No matter what the politicians and so-called news hounds report, our troops are still the root of our nation's patriotism. If you want to feel GOOD about our country, take some time out and listen to these songs. You will feel your heart swelling with pride for being an American!

The Gold Standard in March Music!, July 7, 2011
This review is from: The Military Band: Salute to the Services (Audio CD)
No question about it, the great John Phillip Sousa is the best and greatest marching band music composer who ever lived. To hear all his best known and beloved marches played by the best musicians available and recorded magnificently at that like you will in this cd is an experience you'd keep wanting back if you are into Sousa marches like I am. I owned the LP version and it wasn't bad, considering the medium and the sonic complexity of the music. But we're talking of the digital version and the cd is everything you can ask for in terms of clarity and dynamic range, considering and despite its analog origin. Makes you wonder what if they had then what we have now in the recording studios. I just wish my father lived to hear this sonic treat. He loved Sousa and his marches. Thanks for reading these very subjective comments.

The Military Band, January 8, 2011
This review is from: The Military Band: Salute to the Services (Audio CD)
After listening to the "sample" music, I chose this CD to play as the background music for a video featuring my deceased husband a retired Major General of the USAF. I chose only four/five selections;the Air Force Song certainly being one of them. The music was most fitting and beautifully performed. Everyone who attended the reception following his funeral was most impressed with the video and commented on, not only the pictures of him throughout his life, but also the music chosen. Thank you for helping make something painful so much easier to bear, and helping to impart wonderful memories. Sincerely, Anne Brown

The Military Band: Salute To The Services, Felix Slatkin, September 22, 2010
This review is from: The Military Band: Salute to the Services (Audio CD)
I own a lot of "military" type march CD's. There are no words sufficient to praise this work highly enough. This conductor has no fear of percussion and this is military band percussion at it's finest. Every section of the "band" is the best. I know of no exception or flaw. If you love great military/march music (and here your mind's eye can actually visualize a "crack" military marching band, on the parade deck, with troops marching and salutes being thrown to "the brass" in the reviewing stands; If you thrill to military march music, played to perfection, this is what you're looking for. By the way, the use of the xylophone on this CD is unlike any military band I've ever heard. C K Belhasen
