A worthy if a bit poppy successor to Live Through This. Submitted on: 2009-11-15 |

| Although hard "riot grrl" fans dissed Celebrity Skin when it was released, it was and remains one of the great grunge-era albums by any band. With lyrically accessible and audibly pleasing songs as "Malibu" and "Boys on the Radio" (a reworking of Love's Sugar Coma apparently with signficant help by Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins) to introspect ballads as "Awful" and "Reasons to be Beautiful" CS was a departure from Live Through This. Indeed the irony of being "sell outs" wasn't lost on Love; "Boys on the Radio" is often considered an indictment of the record industry and its handling of musicians, while "Playing Your Song" pointedly discusses the very "selling out" that fans of Hole so vehemently accused the album of being the prime example. Yet, its continued sales is a testament to its place in the recent history of music, of whatever persuasion. In addition to the one CD versions, a number of two-CD import sets were made, with live tracks from Australia and the U.K. |

Another good effort from CL. Submitted on: 2009-09-07 |

| This record is a few years old, but the followup to Live Through This is an excellent one. I simply adore Courtney Love's way with words and though some might find her a little harsh, she is a great musician. Get this one. It's that good. The best, though, is Live Through This. |

Solid Album from the late 90s Submitted on: 2009-05-06 |

| To cut to the chase...this is a a very good album with a lot of hooks and is very upbeat. Every song is listenable. This and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Californication are my two favorite albums from the 1998-1999 period. I highly recommend it. I still listen to it from time to time and originally purchased it shortly after it came out. |

I don't understand how anyone could dislike this album, I read ALL of the 1 star reviews and many of the consumer's were dissing Hole calling them pop sell outs and other bands like L7 are much better and would never do such an album. I beg to differ... L7's "Bricks Are Heavy" is very polished and more on the lines of "Celebrity Skin" in contrast to anything else they've done.
Am I the only person in America that heard "Pretend We're Dead??" how much more Pop can you get? or "The Masses Are Asses", "Monster", "American Society", "Wargasm" "Diet Pill"? What about all those songs? they're all very "Celebrity Skin" if you ask me.
I bought this album in 2004, I heard of the band and Courtney Love my whole life but I never got around to hearing the band's wickedness until one night... Listening to Launch radio before hitting the sack "Celebrity Skin" was featured on my Radio/Channel. After hearing it I purchased The Full-LENGTH album within a matter of 15 minutes after sampling other tracks of course.
I'm a very late fan, basically when all the fun and hype has faded out and that's fine, It's for my own personal listening pleasures. This album pulled me in drastically, I can't get enough. "Celebrity Skin" "Awful" "Northern Star" "Hit So Hard" "Reasons To Be Beautiful" and My FAVORITE! FAVORITE! FAVORITE! track "Dying" are still songs I run in the ground to this very day.
I play this album like it's brand NEW- What I like most about Courtney Love's voice is how much it reminds me of an Intoxicated Joan Jett. It's gritty and bare. I'm sure some Hard Rock snob would beg to differ but that's their opinion. Overall this is a Rock N Roll SMASH!! and i'm satisfied with it. |
