Wendy and Lisa's Most Beautiful Dedication: Beauty Emerging From Sorrow!!!
Submitted on: 2009-01-04
This is the fourth album from Wendy and Lisa... the most recent being White Flags of Winter Chimneys which is not sold through Amazon yet but can only be purchased through their `official' website. Due to the fact that they wanted to be more creative and experimental with this album, Wendy and Lisa released the album using the lesser known `Girl Bros' name. This album marks a more developed progression of their `alternative' sound that can be found on Eroica (their 3rd album). The album was written shortly after the death of Jonathan Melvoin (Wendy's brother) and several cuts directly address his death: "I Will", "Bring You Back", and "Jonathan". Other songs seem to be very introspective such as "I've Got A Big Bowl of Cherries", "All I Wonder/Anyway", and "I've Got No Strings". Other cuts on the album are less `serious' such as "Reaching One", "Love & Trouble", and "Let's Say". These songs have a more playfull feel and are definitely needed to keep the album from being too somber.

This album is definitely a good album as it represents Wendy and Lisa at one of their most `free' and `experimental' times during their careers. It is clear that Wendy and Lisa wanted to branch out and broaden their musical horizons and depart from the sounds that were more expected of them from music executives. Although Prince fans may not deem this album to be `funky' enough, music lovers should purchase this album for its touching lyrics dedicated to Jonathan Melvoin and for the innovative sounds that can now be expected from Wendy and Lisa.
More under the radar and gorgeous

Beautiful but sad masterpiece
Submitted on: 2008-07-06
Wendy and Lisa make a huge leap from the pop/funk days with prince and as a solo act. The songs deal with alientation, fear, the difficulty of love. It's a kind of Plastic Ono Band project, reminiscinet of the sound being stripped back to basics and w and l's vocals simplified and full of sadness and doubt. It's heartbreaking to listen to, but a brilliant record. Attention labels: why do you not back these women?? Standout Tracks: If I were brave, bring you back, Jonathan
Incomparable

That's the beautiful part... there is no connection to Prince. It's a Wendy and Lisa album. As a musician I have nothing but respect for these 2 artists. There's no formula. It's just GREAT music. There is nothing out there like it. You can try to compare these ladies, but the comparison to anything would be miniscule, at best.
This album is in the same class as EROICA. You can listen to it from start to end over and over again. Keep listening and you'll here passages that you missed the first hundred times you listened. The sound, the mix, the arrangements are all dead on! "Let's Say" is my favorite. It and the rest of the album have been described in detail by the other reviewers, so I won't get into that.
Sheryl Crow ROCKS - but Wendy and Lisa came WAY before Sheryl. Wendy appears on Cheryl's CD because she wanted that Wendy and Lisa sound - hence, some Sheryl Crow songs sound like Wendy and Lisa. Not visa-versa.
It's a great disc. You don't have to be a fan to love it. If Britney Spears or Timberlake are your ideas of genius then , no, you're not going to like this CD...yet :-)
Girl Bros CD

The Girl Bros CD is worth the money. It is one of the best CDs that Wendy and Lisa have made. Their self titled Debut Album is another great album. If U are looking 4 a great CD then Girl Bros. is the one 4 U.
