Love this stuff, August 5, 2011
This review is from: Thrash Metal - Metalhit Sampler (MP3 Download)
Nice sampler of what I used to call speed metal. Lost track of all the genres ages ago. Old school punk with death vocals is the style pretty much. I agree that the sound quality is not MAJOR STUDIO quality but not ALL of the indie artists have rich parents..(just a lot of them). Enjoy this one. And as a reminder, this is an OPINION. I got this sampler because it was free, and it has some really great music on it! I'm glad it's in my collection now!

Not the best bands, but FREE!, October 24, 2010
This review is from: Thrash Metal - Metalhit Sampler (MP3 Download)
A few decent tracks from second and third tier thrash and black metal artists. Music is a little outmoded by some standards, but FREE music is FREE!

Just because it's free, that doesn't mean you have to listen to it., October 22, 2010
This review is from: Thrash Metal - Metalhit Sampler (MP3 Download)
It's not horrible. If you like metal at all you might as well get it, but other than that I would say pass if you are familiar with the type of music. There's nothing exceptional for sure, and there is a strong 80's feeling to this, even more than other metal. It could be that old, I have no idea
My main problem with it is the same problem I have with all metal music. It's artificially hardcore. Growling voices, rapid drumming, sheering guitars, and probably some leather boots and fists in the air.
Now, I've got no problem with that per say, and I actually love "hardcore" music. But this, like all metal practically, is just pretending. There's nothing hardcore or threatening about playing the same music for 30 years. If you're going to act hardcore and try to make intimidating music, you need to make sure you intimidate. Which means constantly changing, constantly challenging your own expectations. As soon as your music becomes ritualized and static, predictable and carrying a image, you are no longer hardcore. If you want something hardcore, I suggest, just as an introduction, that you check out something like Black Eyes.
With that said, if you just like the type of music it is then its okay. Not the best, but certainly not the worst metal out there.

3 1/2 Stars, October 6, 2010
This review is from: Thrash Metal - Metalhit Sampler (MP3 Download)
I would give this one 4 stars, but the sound quality on a couple songs is not very good. I think six out of the twelve songs are great, the other half is good to ok. All in all it's a pretty good thrash metal sampler.

Pretty not bad, October 1, 2010

Compared with other metal samplers on Amazon, this one is pretty good. A few really good songs. And the rest... they're free!
