If you like all of his other stuff, you will LOVE this Submitted on: 2009-08-29 |

| Bright Eyes is my favorite band. I started out listening to I'm Wide Awake and moved from there to others. This album is the last bright eyes album I discovered, but I am incredibly in love with it. The tracks capture raw emotion, creative lyrics, and an incredible arrangement, all from an 18 year old. Difference in the Shades and Touch are my personal favorites from the album, but the most popular with BE fans is June on the West Coast. GET THIS ALBUM, you will not be sorry. |

My First Bright Eyes Album!! =] Submitted on: 2009-01-21 |

This album is just amazing, to simply put it. I've read a few bad "one star" reviews on here.. and I don't get it??.. well, those other reviewers just bash bright eyes by saying things like 'hes so sad, kill himself, blah blah.. emo..'.. which isn't the right thing to put in a review. If you think the music is too slow and depressing, then put it like that.. not all albums have to be upbeat and polished, this one is very old with home production, which makes it all the better. Definitely pick this up, and if you haven't heard bright eyes.. check out the other albums they put out after this one like 'fevers & mirrors, LIFTED.., and the tons of eps, singles, splits..!!
ps.. this is album (cited in the liners by Conor) notes that extra instruments/programming/mixes were added since the original, rare LP recording on vinyl!! |

Noisy introduction to a talented young folkie Submitted on: 2007-10-03 |
|
| The debut from modern folk-prodigy Oberst was a noisy, rambling, sometimes melodic wreck of an acoustic-based, whine-intensive album which often disguises a songwriting edge with harsh production accentuating grating vocals. Still, at a mere 18 years old it was no wonder that borrowed charisma and instrumental knowledge combined to turn many heads in the industry. Behind the jangly and blatant pleas for attention this Dylan upstart had forged for himself at that point (fractured, goaty vocals and dissonant, musically frustrated climaxes) lies an undeniable songwriting intelligence that shines brightest in tiny transitions while Oberst is not so determined to convince his listener he is in pain. |

purity Submitted on: 2006-12-28 |

| this album to me demonstrates purity at its best. yes it is raw. there isn't much studio work to it. it's honest and painful at it's most beautiful. anyone who appreciates true feeling needs to hear this. this is an album full of quoteable lines. one of my favorites is "i can't breathe with these words in my mouth." a sentiment we have all felt at one time or another. it pulls out every emotion unapologetically for the listener to feel. good and bad. pleasant or uncomfortable. |

Best Bright Eyes Album Submitted on: 2006-11-10 |

Yes, in my opinion this is Conor's best release. He was pretty young when recording it, but i find every single song on it to be very enjoyable, and worth listening to. Very lo-fi but the lo-finess is what makes it so great.
It is the imperfections on this album which just in turn make it perfect. |
