| I was very unhappy when I put this in and started listening to it. All the songs are in German. This was not stated on the description when I purchased it. |

| I enjoyed FALCO many years ago on audiotape. The sound is actually clearer and crisper on the CD than I remember from the tape. I enjoy the beat and background very much, but inadvertently ordered the German version, so I have a little difficulty with the words. Nonetheless, FALCO arrived in great shape, and holds a spot in my music library. |

The original white rapper Submitted on: 2009-04-02 |

| Falco is quite simply the greatest ever pop star from mainland Europe. He was rapping about Vienna's drug scene in 'Ganz Wien' within months of Grandmaster Flash bringing hip-hop to the attention of the (white) world. His superb debut album 'Einzelhaft' ('Solitary Confinement') stormed the international charts thanks to his intoxicating single 'Der Kommissar' ('The Inspector' - another drug scene song). His follow-up 'Junge Roemer' ('Young Romans') combined funky synth pop with Bowie-esque lyricism in 3 languages while 1985's 'Falco 3' was the European equivalent to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. In later years he struggled to keep up the quality but flashes of genius kept on returning right up until his timeless death in 1998. Not all of his greatest songs are on this CD but it's a good starting point. Other gems include 'Wiener Blut' (Vienna Blood - a song about 80s corruption), 'Mutter, der Mann mit dem Koks ist da' (another song about cocaine fusing a 1920s Berlin song with the 90s rave generation), 'Out of the Dark' (with the spooky premonition: "Must I die so that I can live") and last but not least 'Egoist' (a semi-autobiographical song about narcissism). Never has a pop musician delved into such dark terrain and produced music that has stood the test of time. Falco is a true artist who was falsely mistaken for a one/two hit wonder in the English speaking world. |
