The FIxx Ultimate Collection Submitted on: 2009-07-15 |

| This is actually the best collection I have seen from this great 80's band. Many of their collections have live versions of some of their hits; this one does not. if you enjoy 60;s pop, this is a great collection. |

This is one terrific collection of Fixx classics! I have all of The Fixx's albums in both vinyl and CD format, and I still went ahead and purchased this collection. I am glad I did - it is really that good! The mastering job is great, and the selection of songs couldn't be better. I pop this CD into my player and the great Fixx songs just keep on going!
The unique new-wave guitar and synth sounds of The Fixx bring me back to my high school days, and I celebrate their entire catalog. Here, I will rate each track on the usual 5-star scale.

You can't go wrong with this collection. If you are already a fan, this collection will surely bring a smile to your face. If you remember The Fixx from the 80's but don't have any of their albums, this one CD will make a fine addition to your collection. If you already have their popular album "Reach the Beach," this CD will introduce you to much of their other great material.
For some reason, The Fixx seems to be a niche band, and people either love them or have never heard of them. I've never met anyone that knows them and doesn't love them. If you enjoy classic rock or new-wave 80's rock, you will absolutely love The Fixx. Even if classic rock or 80's rock is not your favorite, you may still find that you really enjoy The Fixx - their music is hard to classify. Get this CD and find out what you have been missing.

| Finally, a Fixx collection that has the album versions instead of "live versions" of several hits. I can remember seeing them open for Flock of Seagulls in the summer of 1983. Their videos were all over MTV '83-86. |

The Synth-Pop Band That's Not Synth-Pop Submitted on: 2008-06-26 |
|
| The Fixx's ULTIMATE COLLECTION is the ultimate anthology by the one 80s MTV band that actually got critical praise along with its commercial success. The reason the Fixx didn't get bad reviews from the press is because of several differences between them and their peers. For one, guitarist Jamie West-Oram's guitar was one of the dominant instruments in this band, rather than the synthesizers which dominated such groups as the Human League, making the Fixx sound a lot like Roxy Music crossed with the Steve Miller Band and Fleetwood Mac. For another, the band's lyrics often discussed serious issues, such as nuclear war, abuse of technology and science, and divisions between people, the latter two of which inspired me to try out Eastern diet ideas, as well as to walk more instead of relying on Arab oil all the time for a ride, eventually resulting in the college-aged female lifeguard at the swimming pool I attended thinking I was cute. Where as a Human League shirt might get you nominated for TLC's WHAT NOT TO WEAR these days, the Fixx still sound contemporary today because the issues they discuss can still have relevance as the Bush era draws to a close. Overall, while the Fixx certainly use their share of synths, they're not really a synth-pop group. |
